Hmm. The papers tout Freo and WCE to go all out for Coughlan next year since his contract runs out at the end of 2004.

Anyone here interested in Coughlan, and, if so, what position would you play him in? Our midfield is crammed with talent. Can we fit another midfielder, albeit, a tough inside midfieldier who likes to get dirty.

Drool.

The tough nuts: Kerr, Chick and COughlan
The rolls royce range: Cousins and Fletcher
The sports car models: Judd and Embley

I rekon we have a great chance to snare Coughlan than Freo "barely under the salary cap" Dockers do.

- We can throw money at this guy

- He's an Eagles supporter (before he got drafted to Richmond)

- Jako retire and a few more delistments.

- SHould free up 600-700 k

don;t mistake me kenny, i wasn't insulting Coughlan.

Midfield spots are a premium in the Eagles's engine room.

Thats why it would be difficult to fit him in the midfield.

Like everyone else I recognise him as a gun player.

Tiger Bob, we have the right to pursue anyone we want. Your threats don;t mean jackcrap.

Its called trade week.

Coughlan has not reached the state of sports car or rolls royce yet. maybe another season.

Did I miss any? Somehow I have doubts about a lot of these trades...
I've heard he's injury plagued. Probably only worth a second rounder.

Coughlan is a cut above most midfielders going around- to suggest we couldn't find a place for him is ridiculous- he'd walk into any lineup in the competition, bar none. But we wouldn't have a hope of getting him, so nuff said.

What he said :D

Hopefully Cogs will stay at richmond he's already said he loves playing for richmond and wants to stay at the one club. He also said coming to Melbourne was the best thing for his footy as they were too many distractions back home. And he was worried that we would trade him to West Coast when there were all those rumours about Chris Judd awhile back, Cogs said it was a relief when Judd re-signed as he could stop worrying. Hopefully things stay that way.

He also said on Fox Footy that he would like to play some of his AFL footy back at home, which is by the way, WA!
I cant remember Coughlan saying that coming to melbourne was the best thing about his footy (If you can prove me wrong, i'll be satisfied) and this is what he said about the proposed trade to the eagles for judd: "I don't think the eagles would swap judd for 3 of me.."
I agree, Coughlan is 'almost' the complete player.. I wouldn't say either him or Juddy are the complete footballer as of yet.. They both need to work a bit more on their defensive side of the ball, but if attacking are 2 of the most exciting players in the AFL to watch..
Coughlan is the 1 and only reason i go to some richmond games when i get the chance, only because our beloved eagles only travel to melbourne 5 or 6 times a year! :(

I can't find the article maybe it was an interview I heard but he said that coming to Melbourne was the best thing for his footy as there were too many distraction back home - going out and partying with his mates instead of just focusing on footy.

Coughlan relieved

WHEN budding superstar Chris Judd re-signed with West Coast this week, it wasn't only Eagles supporters who were smiling.

Star Richmond midfielder Mark Coughlan also breathed a sigh of relief.

The rumour mill in football-mad Melbourne had the 21-year-old put out as trade bait, along with Richmond's first-round draft pick, in a bid to lure Judd to Tigerland.

Coughlan had heard the rumour and, despite being put at ease by coach Danny Frawley, admitted it had been a distraction. "I knew that it was only a rumour because West Coast weren't going to give up Chris Judd too easily," Coughlan said.

"But . . . it still did play on my mind – it was a distraction I didn't need. If anything, it was extra motivation to play well."

It obviously worked. Coughlan had averaged 26 possessions in the four matches leading into last night's match against the Western Bulldogs.

Not that he had any reason to worry if you listen to Frawley.

"There was a couple of rumours that Judd wanted to come home and Coughlan was a WA boy and that would be an obvious swap," Frawley said.

"But we want to grow and develop our list, so there is no way we would let Mark Coughlan go."

It is a sentiment shared by his housemate, injured Richmond captain Wayne Campbell, who rates Coughlan as the best player the club has drafted in the past five years.

"When you pick one like that and you get him at a reasonably low draft pick (25), you don't give him up," Campbell said.

Despite the Tigers' lowly ladder position, Coughlan is keen to play out his career in the black and yellow.

"I've developed a feeling for the jumper in the past three years," he said.

"We haven't enjoyed success since I have been here and I want to be at the club when we are winning and in the finals.

"We showed at the start of the year that when we have our best team playing we are capable of winning."

My best friends fathers uncle who is on the first name terms with his local priest told me that we are in the pole position to get the pope. Roumour has it though that Eagles want him to do a full physical something he is currently reluctant to agree. Stay tuned Sunday mass is coming and some more news is likely. :D :D :D

Carlton16

Carlton to rebuild, dream on, losers, clowns and incompetent footballers roll into one pathetic excuse for a football club. Oh yeah. Dirty Cheats.

And by the way Coughlan with his own mouth and own words did say he barracked for WCE in his young days befor being drafted to Richmond. That doesn;t mean he'll go back to WA because he barracks for WCE, it just means that he was a WCE supporter. YOU TOOL!

Its not my fault Carlton doesn't how to recruit

Its not my fault that Carlton are the worst player managers in Australia

Its not my fault that Carlton are two-faced hyprocrites with peanuts for brains...and even then when u crack the shell, theres nothing but dust and air.

Coughlan

It would cost us a Sh*t load to get Coughlan at West Coast for 2005! 1st Rd draft pick, plus middle of the road player is what those cheap bastards would want!:(

You blokes aren't having much luck are you?

First, your hopes are ruined when you realise Polak is still contracted with Freo and going nowhere, then Bartel re-signs with Geelong, and now Coughlan says this: 'Richmond is my home,' and this: 'absolutely' (when asked whether he saw his long term playing future at Richmond).

Ah well, looks like you'll just have to settle with Koops, who according to jod, 'wouldn't get a game for you at all.' (What's new)

Better luck next time. :D :)
