Best bit of comedy I've heard in a long time - Doran doing an ad to promote himself calling the athletics at Olympic Park on Thursday night. His riveting, up-beat style will be perfectly suited to this, but I have two questions.
How many 'ums' will he be able to manage in the 100m sprint?
Did he think he was only covering walking events?

At least a sprint is only 10-11 seconds, imagine listening to the mincer for however long a walk takes.
Listened to part of the program yesterday when I was going to the local fish n chippie to get lunch, he was raving how he had just got this new Fujitsu air-conditioner. He said it even "can heat the room". Don't all modern air-conditioners heat rooms? You could hear the silence as Harf and Ripper rita were wondering what drugs is this tool using.

Doran showed his lack of knowledge in of the entertainment world yesterday as well. He has been talking about Heath Ledgers win, then about 15 minutes later he said that Kate Winslet had won best actress and it was another win for us.

That's quite sad.

:D:D Theres the thread summed up right there - what a waste of 14 pages!
Said i wouldn't stop till he was removed from SEN. Want him to be carrying his belongings out in a cardboard box and never to return.

Today he was debating the most marketable Australian sporting team. He decided to jump on the socceroos. Someone rang up and said it was the cricketers because of the profile even the Aussies have in India. His response "they follow soccer in India too". It would be like saying Rugby Union has the same following as AFL in Melbourne, fair dinkum.

I can't stand him and what makes it worse he turns into a condescending prick and just cuts people off whenever someone rings up and challenges him.

The guillotine must be ready to fall on Doran.

In the latest radio ratings his figures dropped from a measly 2.9% to a woeful 2.2%. http://au.nielsen.com/site/documents/Metro209.pdf

We all know that its the advertising dollars that decide who goes and who stays in this business, never more so than in a tight economic climate.

This survey covered the Victorian bushfire crisis. I doubt too many people would have been listening to a sports station during such a tragedy (even though SEN were quite good covering it). Need to wait for the next survey before jumping to any conclusions.

Heard that, he was trying to belittle people for thinking differently to him. Most people said that the Australian Cricket Team was the most marketable but "the ferret" was having none of it. Suggesting the Soceroos are. The Socceroos have done a great job to maybe make the next world cup but they will not for a long, long time be more marketable than the Aussie cricket team.

Maybe 4 of them would be recognised in a sports bar. Neill, Kewell, Cahill and Schwarzer. As for the rest you wouldn't have a clue.

I caught the end of that segment. An old guy rang up and told him off for cutting everyone off who didn't have an opinion the same as his, and he replied with something like "I'm the host of the show, and that's how this works".

To suggest the socceroos have a higher profile than the Aus cricket team is just laughable. If any sport has been our national sport since Federation, its cricket.

As much as I dislike Doran, he is correct here.

There are only 2 Australian cricketers that would have any sort of profile overseas. Ponting and Clarke. Mitchell Johnson will join those two after the upcoming Ashes tour. And as far as overseas countries it is very limited annyway, ie England, India, Sth Africa, NZ, Sri Lanka and the Caribbean.

Whereas some of the Socceroos players are recognised on a worldwide scale - thats all of Africa, Asia, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. Guys like Kewell, Schwartzer and Viduka have a massive profile with Cahill, Emerton and Neil quickly catching up.

Another factor in the Socceroos favour is their popularity with females and especially mums.

If you were in advertising and wanted to market a global brand there is no doubt you would go for one of the socceroo players. The only exception might be if the brand was alcohol

Show a woman a picture of Lucas Neill and a picture of Simon Katich. I guarantee that she will recognise Neill first.

Show a picture of Brett Lee (he has played for Aus a lot recently than Viduka) up against a picture of Lucas Neill.

I could also twist the soccer one around and say show a picture of Andrew Symonds up against Luke Wilkshire or Brett Holman.

Seriously the man on the street in the US, France, Russia, China wouldn't have a clue who any of them are. England (because the majority of socceroos with a profile play in the premier league) and Australia are the two mainstream markets for both sets of players. Ponting/Clarke/Lee are elite players in their sport, Schwarzer/Neill/Cahill while solid are miles behind Ronaldo, Rooney, Gerrard for promotion in the UK.

So Turkish fans might know Kewell, Italians Bresciano and Grella (stretching) but Indian fans worship Australian cricketers. I like both sports and soccer has definitely come closer in this regard since the WC and the retirement of Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath but they are still a long way behind.

The argument would need to be defined on whether we are talking about within Australia or worldwide. At this very second, or in history. The team or the players.

Within Australia, the Aus cricket team have been dominating the sporting pages in this country for 6+ months a year for over 100 years.

Obviously if we are talking worldwide, its very hard to compare guys who are sporting gods in a few countries, to guys who are lesser profile, but famous in far more countries.

Probably goes to show what a crap discussion topic Doran chose.

Probably agree with that.
You would also need to know what product was being marketed.

As I said before if you were selling an Aussie beer aimed primarily at males here and in the UK then you would choose an Auustralian cricketer.

If you were selling an Aussie breakfast cereal aimed at kids here and throughout Western Europe you would probably choose a Socceroo.

IMO the Socceroo has more opportunities to be marketable. The scope for a cricketer is fairly limited.

My fault, champ.

Must also be the reason that beacon of news broadcasting FOX FM improved their share in a number of slots...

Interestly I sent a text in to Mark today about the Coaches salary's as reported by Mike Sheehan(sp?) or more to the point Mick Malthouses salary and got a call from his producer asking me to go on air. Last time I went on air suggesting I was not happy with a Collingwood process the Pies forums and here went a little crazy with Joffa and co attacking me as the ultimate AntiPie, so I declined.
