Rumour Mark Jamar

Heard we are going after Mark Jamar who is a free agent at seasons end, as we are looking for an established ruckman while witts develops / Jolly ages.

What do you think? Jamar is one of the best Ruckman in the comp and can ruck solo when needed, tough and puts his body on the line.

Only problem is he said he doesn't like Jolly, calls him soft -
So if we pick up the Russian do we get rid of Jols at the expense of probably getting 4 years left out of Jamar compared to 1-2 out of Jolly?
Or do we stick with Jols and go for a utility type ruckman? Taking into mind the fact that Jolly is 31 at seasons and and will probably only go around 1 more year / who knows if he falls apart due to injury.

Why wouldn't we look internally to fill this role?

We've had a 204cm, big bodied, mature ex college basketballer on our rookie list for the last 3 seasons - Shae Mac.

The only negative thing I've heard about Shae is that he sometimes looks lost in play. Gee, it shouldn't be too hard as a ruckman - when one of the blokes in green tosses a ball in the air, ya gotta be there to knock it in the direction of one of the blokes in black and white stripes. If he can do that OK then he's at least as good as another bloke I'll refrain from naming - anything extra is a bonus.

I saw him play earlier this year in Blacktown and I thought he was alright - he played a whole lot better in the backline than Keeffe did that game.

I'd prefer Warnock.

So would I.

In fact, I'd be thrilled with one of Warnock or West. Both are in the perfect age bracket as the majority of our senior stars and up and comers.

At 25 years of age, they can develop for the best part of 5 years with our current group.

Jamar is just too much of a stop-gap measure.

A younger option should be preferred so we do not again have to do this in 2 years time.

We don't have to do this in 2 years time anyway cause we have WITTS and CEGLAAAAAAR!

I guess you guys are assuming we are losing Cloke or another player in this rumour to free up some cap space. If we don't its laughable that we would have the purse to go after a free agent.

Putting this aside then someone like Jamar would certainly be handy. Quality big guys are a limited supply and hard to find.

I'm assuming our list remains in tact actually.

A player like Warnock would take a pay cut for opportunities- see Luke Ball. At Carlton he is well behind Kreuzer and currently behind Hampson.

The lure of potentially being #1 at say Collingwood with Jolly close to the end would be very appealing- particularly if he wants game time. He would have to take less than he would get elsewhere but he would be given guaranteed opportunities. It's something to weigh up.

West may be a different proposition as he is virtually #1 at Geelong with Ottens retiring. He would be hard to get.

Witts I'll give you but Ceglar I am not convinced on.

I'd much rather have a 25 year old ruck who can play first team football right now and then have another quality option like Witts emerging.

I just don't see it in Ceglar.

We have a 25 year old ruck that can play first team football that is Cameron Wood. He's just not very Good.

That's a major problem.

Warnock has shown he is quite capable at senior level, ditto West.

It's so disheartening doing a ruck search every few years because we are still waiting in hope for Cam Wood to kick on.

Would love Jamar, he would be perfect for us. West is 100% out fo the question, he won't be leaving Geelong.

I'd be going hard for Warnock and be rid of Jolly and Wood at the end of this year.

Ceglar should be ready for back up ruck duties by next year if needed, and until then, Dawes or Keefe can play the fill in role.

Warnock can jump, and is far more agile around the ground, and shouldn't cost as much as Jamar.

would much prefer Trent West over Warnock or Jamar.

Left field option would be Kosi, he would be outstanding in the Leigh Brown role while Jolly is still there and then would be adequate as #1 ruck while the youngsters develop.

Doubt Kosi would leave the Saints when they have Stuck by him

Is Jamar a restricted or unrestricted free agent? Because if he's restricted we have zero chance of getting him through free agency because they can't move if their old club matches the money on offer and Melbourne could double our offer to him. If he's unrestricted that's a different matter.

Be that as it may I'd be genuinely shocked if he was at Collingwood next year.

No thanks Kosi is a useless uncoordinated hack

pass with ease

I would not be against Jamar coming along, but it really depends on how Jolly finishes this season. I am not sure we could afford him, but if we could, he is more than a 'stopgap' and could easily help us to another shot.
