Bombers clinch Mark Johnson deal
Thursday, 1 September 2005

Star Bomber and Crichton Medal favourite Mark Johnson has tonight signed a new two year deal with the Bombers. The contract brings to an end speculation about his future, after being linked to a number of clubs including Port Adelaide.

His re-signing comes on the back of other recent new deals done with Brent Stanton, Ricky Dyson and Andrew Welsh.

Essendon Football Manager Dom Cato said "It is fantastic news for the club. Mark never had any intention of leaving Essendon and we never had any intention of letting him go. We are really pleased this has been completed and now we can move on."

Mark Johnson has played all 22 games this season for Essendon, averaging nearly one and a half goals in each game. He also leads the club tackle count with 83 tackles.

Damn!!!

There goes any chance of getting Tredrea and Ports first two picks.

#19 and #35 aren't much chop anyway ;)

Didn't think he'd leave and I'm glad we've been saved from embarrassing ourselves!

He can still be traded, look at the Fevola situation.

Different situation.

I doubt Essendon would have signed him up if they had any intent of trading him. And Mark wouldn't have signed if he wanted to go.

Fevola will probably stay, but he is a headcase, his form is horrible, his attitude is horrible and it seems that both parties might be sick of each other.

Mark is a leader, a likely duel B&F winner, a hard worker and a damn good player. He belongs at Essendon and Essendon are happy to have him.
