Why is it that McGough always gets taken off, is it that he is just not fit enough?
It's extremely frustrating to see mcgough get 5 or 6 early clearences then get taken off half way through the quarter. Sometimes when he comes off he looks absolutely stuffed, so thats understanding but other times he looks fine.
Just your thoughts, is there something I don't know? I think he had that ostiados pubis thing last year, is that it? Why is he always off the ground when he is such a natural ball winner.

I think you all know this, i hat it too.

He has to be unfit, it is the only reason. He certainly is not injured. if he is 99% fit, he should be getting 99% game time. he is only getting 50%.

The ball magnet or mcnet or mcstat is getting so much of it, he might have leather poisoning:D

if i was Goughy and knew i was fit, then i would turn away from collingwood because i know i can win a brownlow with some TOG.

he had no preseason because of OP, that might be hampering him although he has played 6 or so on the trot in the one's and you would think that would get him match fit

most likely a niggle of some sort

If it is OP. Then rest him for the rest of the season so he is fit to star in the middle next year. 15 minutes here and there is annoying for us and it must be for him.

It's because of his OP.

Correct.

MM has publically stated that McGough is being gradually plaed back into the game. I see nothing wrong with the way they are playing him now. Anyway, there needs to be player rotation in the midfield, so taking McGough off a certain times would help that.

It is not that severe. They just need to manage it and ensure they don't overload him so it will not flare up.

Whats the point of that, either frikking play him full on what he is capable of or rest him.

It gives us all the ****s when You see him start of so well and playing well then he gets dragged and then just doesnt have the same influence.

It could be many things, But all we know is that he is a good player and will get his fair share of time on the ground soon.

he is missing 40-50 minutes of every game. There is a rotation of our midfield which is good but McGough gets the raw end of that rotation. He is our sam mitchell and if the reason he isnt playing at least 100 minutes of every game is because of OP then i understand, but if he isnt injured than its just ridiculous to leave a player of such quality on the bench.

Exactly what i wanted to say but i couldnt find the right words.

The guy has no defensive game whatsoever. If this is because he is unfit then fine, but if that is his natural game then it needs to be altered. Our midfielders have to put pressure on their opponents. If they can't then let someone else have a go.

Clearly our fade out on Monday was due to carrying too many 50% fit players. Bucks I can understand, but if you add McGough with OP, Presti coming back from 4 weeks off, Maxwell not quite there due to being on the bench for weeks and Tarks working his way to fitness, surely we need to play more 100% fit players.

Once a few of the guys work themselves up to full match fitness then we can carry McGough with his OP.

Is this why Mark played on the bench for the entire second half? I'm not a fan of McGough at all, but in those conditions you would have thought that he would get a full game.

Didn't look good running (Wadaling) around the boundry line late in the game on Monday. Expect him to miss this week.

He most certainly is injured. He's getting around 60% game time.

I've kept a very close eye on his game time and it appears to be a very deliberate approach at this stage, even if it means sitting him on the pine when we're getting killed in the middle.

In his eight games he's had 157 posessions. That's 19.62 per game. Running at (a generous) 65% game time, he's running on a 30+ posessions per game average.

Whatsmore, is that he gets them in the most important part of the game (at least for us) which is the stoppages.

He's had two games where his kicking has been shocking, but it must be said that in those games, there was zero movement accross half-forward. We were without Taz and Josh on both occassions.

I had a discussion with Dan at Hotrod's, who don't like MCG much, and he pointed out that McGough is inflexible, which might explain why his only rotatable position is on the pine (as opposed to up forward or down back).

I still believe that McGough's current bench spells are to do with OP and yeah, if he's had that, his motor hasn't really been prepared properly for

Hypothetically, if MCG's current 60% game time is down soley to Malthouse's desire to rotate players through the midfield, then I'd suggest MM is being his typical inflexible self! If you draft the "best possible player available" in the draft, which is what we are spoon fed by Noel, then by default, you are going to get some single position players.

McGough was the best player available at that point in his draft. He is a pure old-fashioned ruck-rover. He should be allowed to see out games in that position, when fit.

Imagine the notion of Sheedy benching Misiti in his prime, merely because it was time for a rotation, and Misiti is strictly a centreman, and relatively inflexible. Nevermind the fact that he could get you 30+ possies per game. Silly notion huh?!

Does anyone remember what happened to our last single-positioned player? Let's hope McGough ain't the next Scotland!!

Thats a good point about MCG being a one possition player but we have a few of those. but like you said your self 65% game time and an average of 20 odd disp per game...surely if he is fit then he should play more game time.

I can't work out why Malthouse wont give this guy at least 80 minutes/game.He was exactly the sort of guy you needed tonight.Sydney can be beaten if you can beat them in tight. Mcgough is one of your best in this regard.

I find it hard to believe it's OP thats stopping him getting serious game time. Surely if he really has OP the split round was the perfect chance to not pick him and freshen him up. This is a good man being wasted.

For what it's worth Dane Swan is in your best 22 IMHO as well. Malthouse appears to have favourites and it's costing you.

It's absolutely hilarious watching McGough play. If he's got the ball in space, no one will go anywhere near him from the opposition - they man up around him, knowing that if he's forced to kick its more than likely going to be turned over.

And that's why Malthouse doesn't play him.

Dropped For this Week.

Doen nothing Wrong.. Probably been one of our best through the Middle part of The Season. Little TOG, gave him less possessions. I think he is out of Favour with the Pies. Wouldn't be bad trade Bait i don't think.

But personally i would like to keep on to him. He's still only 19.
