People I heard at the game today criticising his performance were disgraceful. Yes he didn't have the best game but the fact he even played was a monumental effort. With what happened only FOUR days ago, to be out there was huge. Well done Spike.

That image of him kissing to the skies after the game almost brought a tear to my eye. Thought it was a great gesture for the entire team to wear the black arm bands too.

Agreed, wasn't his best game but the very fact he was out there, at the end of the day, should show how passionate a player he is. None of us would have begrudged him had he not played.

Now, hopefully, he can go and be with Jarrad up in Sydney for a while. Another positive with having Round 24 off I guess.

I haven't seen the game yet (will watch the replay) but I have no doubt that his focus may have been a little bit else where by the sounds of it. And fair enough too, IMO!

I love this photo too, it sums up a bloke with incredible passion for footy, and more importantly, his family.

On a side note, why is he giving Jr a good scratch at the same time? :p

Mind out of the gutter mate, I'm sure he was just giving his shorts a little tug :p

Had a funny game - Thought he was very good in the first quarter - but couldn't keep up with Gray in the second and third quarter.

Stopped a string of 5 good games.
Agree with this. He was well and truly beaten today but he played with heart and you have to respect his decision to play under trying circumstances.

I didn't stay after the game, but heard the commentator say that Spike was in tears as he left the ground.
I was on the ground for the jumper presentation, he didn't look crash hot. You could tell his mind was elsewhere. But still took a picture with a fan, great bloke.

Courageous from Spike to play considering he lost his niece earlier in the week. Tbh he has been very good the last month or so, I thought he was finished but he has come back. His kicking is very good, and you are guaranteed he will give 110% for the jumper, one of my favourites is Spike

I missed this thread when it was created. We all knew how inspirational Jarrad was to be playing again so soon after that tragedy, but didn't really consider the impact on Mark as well until I saw this thread. Massive well done to him for being out there for his club when he must have had so much on his mind

I loved the embrace Mark and Jarrad had after the swannies GF win so much emotion in that :thumbsu:
