We won't trade Kerr: Nisbett

August 2, 2009

Nisbett conceded the club was certain to lose ruckman Mark Seaby at the end of the season. Seaby, frustrated by a lack of opportunities due to the dominance of Dean Cox and the emergence of Nic Naitanui, has already told club officials he wants to be traded.

I don't know enough about Seaby to talk specifically about him but it would seem this guy could fit in at Collingwood. With Bryan not being up to the task. Cam has definitely proven himself lately but to have Seaby there as well would be pretty beneficial in my mind....

Thoughts?

A few weeks ago i would have been all for it. But now that Wood is showing promise and improvment and Fraser has been good all year i think we would be better off drafting a young ruckman.

Besides i think Seaby wants to go to a club were he will be the number 1 ruckman. not the number 3.

Port will probably chase him if Lade retires.

All Woody needs is senior experience and he'll be a good ruckman.

He would cost a second round draft pick at least, so I'll ask the question;

Would you give up another Dayne Beams for a dud like Seaby?

My answer, HELL NO.

I haven't seen him play much over the last little while, but my last impressions were of a gangly foal. I wouldn't want to give much away for him to be honest.

The advantage for us could be North Melbounre like in that we could send Josh forward like a Petrie dish to help out until Dawes and Rus come on.

I certainly would like a ruck to support Josh and Wood and until Keefe develops, but not a high price tag - i'd go a traded up 3rd round. If it doesn't get him - meh!

No.

He wouldn't come to us as he'd be our 3rd sting ruckmen.

Given it's likely Bryan may get punted at years end, if one ruckment goes down when have shown we can fill the void more then adequately but if 2 went down????? Is Lachlan Keefe ready to assume that role? Not yet.

I'd expect us to draft a ruckmen when we punt Bryan.

"Jack Fitzpatrick (Vic Metro)
The versatile and athletic tall can play as a key forward, in the ruck and even down back. He is very quick for his size and takes a good overhead mark. Stands at 201cm and was impressive in Metro's win against NSW/ACT, winning 19 disposals."

Now that's the type of player we should be going after, and he wasnt even rated in as a first round choice on that crappy Channel 9 future stars show.

We need to take a ruck with our 1st or 2nd pick, we don't need another Chris Bryan.

No way in hell. Put faith in Wood and draft a young Ruckman. Unless we get him for nothing like Leigh Brown then dont give away any pick in the first three rounds. With the GC taking draft picks in the next few years the only reason we should give away any of our picks is if the player we get fills a spot we cant fill with the players we have. We are close to a flag and if we can trade for someone who can take us to the next step then do it but if not get kids. There is no certainties in life so as good as our future looks its not just going to happen so lets not waste it on players who aren't in their sides best 22.

Im interested to understand why you think he would be a second round draft pick?? He's nothing special and he wants to leave, wouldn't he be going cheap?

Yeah, nah um, nah.

Wood is developing nicely. Frase has a few years left in him yet and Keeffe will develop as well. If we go for a ruckman we should draft a youngun like Fitzpatrick if he is still available.

I don't think we need another lanky , non aggressive ruckman . If we were to target another ruckman we need to look at a Charman boofhead type to coplient what we already have .

lol, cos the weagles are overpricing everyone since they lost judd for pick 3 and kennedy, they are trying to make up for it by asking for second rounders :p

3rd at best, probably fourth, rhyce shaw went for a mid draft pick (was he 40 something? just assuming cos we got blight and rounds after one and other) and he was at least a regular contributer if a little maligned
