Now don't get me wrong... I love Bomber, especially when he was with us... but...

WHY does he ALWAYS get his team up to completely tear us apart EVERYTIME they play us?

I understand the Cats are in another universe to most sides in the competition at the moment and defeat pretty much everyone... BUT they had no reason to get themselves up for that game last night and they still did.

Comfortably top of the ladder, had 5 or 6 of their best players missing, coming back from a trip to Perth, mid-season break coming up for them... and they STILL come out and towel us up. Very disheartening! Don't think there is any denying he loves coming out and sticking it up his old side.

And then this to really rub it in after the game...

“To have 41 shots at goal [and] to win so comfortably was a really pleasing result,” Thompson said.

“We sort of pretty much can’t believe it, really.”

GIVE US A BREAK, BOMBER!

He says and does funny things like that to mess with the media and the opposition - its just his character, really. He's in a good place right now - he did hard work early in his career and he is reaping the rewards of having developed a bunch of hard, committed, players who pretty much lead themselves. I don't think there's many people in the AFL who would love their job more than Thompson.

Yeah I'm sick of Geelong tearing us apart at the Dome every single time.

Last night's game was just a carbon copy of every Cats-Bombers game at the Dome over the last 4 years. I basically watched the game with a blank look on my face, realising the inevitability of the whole thing yet again.

They are always at their best when they play us at the Dome. Always.

I had a dream last night that we did a "Carlton of 99 prelim" against them in the prelim this year. But it couldn't happen because we are petrified of the blue and white hoops

Me too. I was finding it hard to get excited even in the 2nd quarter because it felt like the floodgates could open at any time. They're just too ****ing good.

at the risk of sounding condescending, it's all cyclic. Sure our record against you is good currently, but I recall times in the 80s when you'd belt us quite frequently, and then there's the 1993 affair when Ablett kicked 14 and we still managed to lose against you with Salmon kicking 10. I would iimagine Hurley will be kicking bags against all-comers in seasons to come, Davey will be as dangerous as SJ is for us now, and Prismall still won't be getting a game :p

I bumped into Thompson at Mark Harvey`s testimonial years ago. It taught me two things. 1. Club functions are rubbish. 2. Mark Thompson is one of the rudest pricks I have ever met. Harvey was walking around thanking people for coming (it was just the stragglers at this point) as he approached our table, Thompson just brushed us and said " Come on Harves haven`t you had enough of these ********s" Yeah, cheers Bomber, remind me again how much money I`ve pumped into your pockets over the years.
I have always thought he had a prickly nature to him, that night & seeing him perform as geelong coach just confirms this.

That is just plain nasty. Sorry to hear that. I really do expect better from an ex-Essendon premiership captain and 3 time flag winner.

I had a generally unpleasant with him as well after the AFL 150th anniversary game between Victoria and the 'Dream Team' when he was coaching a couple of years back. The Victoria players and coaching staff headed to The Deck in the city after the game where I was at the time and of course the last thing you want to do be doing is annoying players and past greats of the game when they are there for a quiet drink after celebrating a memorable win but my mate wanted to get a photo with Bomber and me as welll. He obliged to have a quick snap, which was nice of him to spare a whole 3 seconds of his time, but when my mate went on to say how big Essendon supporters we were and we thought he was fantastic, he just groaned at the first mention of Essendon and turned away, so we just walked away. Not a nice experience. :thumbsd:

On the other hand, Kevin Sheedy was a true gentleman and was more than happy to have a chat with us for about ten minutes about the Victoria game that had just occured and the Bombers. We had lost about 5 or 6 straight games by that point of 2008 but Sheeds just advised us to be patient with Knights as he was still 'finding his feet'. The rest of the players at The Deck were absolutely fantastic as well... Jonathon Brown, Adam Goodes & Daniel Bradshaw amongst others were really down to earth and happy to have a chat. :thumbsu:

Haha, Sheedy loves a chat.

You could put him in a room with just about anybody and he'd ending up passing on some words of widsom.

Heh, my dad was having a chat with him at Southbank during a work function a couple of months ago. Literally hanging over one of those glass barrier things from a bar and chatting to the great man.

Classic Sheeds.

My brother was an AFL boundary umpire, and an Essendon supporter, and tells a story how he was training with the other boundary umps and Sheedy wandered over and talked their ear off for ages.

Sheeds was really interested in all the guys and what they were doing and their interests in general.

He really is a great people person. No wonder he made a great coach.

Get rid of Lovett-Murray, Dempesy and Stanton and we will be top four contenders.

What's even more annoying is, I heard a rumour today that he's (MT) packing up and going to coach Essendon is 2012.:(
