For Stiffy and everyone else interested in who is in the 2003 draft - pick up the latest issue of Inside Football.

They have reviewed about 100 or so players who could be drafted this month. The reviews of each player are not by your usual "afl draft expert" either.

The info is from the players coachs/development officers of their home club. I thought this was a good touch as the statements are from people who have seen these lads come through the ranks over the past 12 months or so. Its fairly insightful and accurate IMO. well done to IF.

Thanks for the info Jerome - I'll get a copy tomorrow. Should make for a good read.

What does it say about Brent Hall??????:)

"Brent Hall - South Fremantle
DOB 7/1/86 ht 198cm wt 94 kg

Brent had an interesting season because he's from the country and had to drive about two hours to training sessions once a week and then play on the weekend. He didnt do a proper pre season and that put him on the back foot and then he went away with the IAS team to Ireland and then played in the nationals.

Is very athletic, very quick and good below the knees for a big bloke. Kicking isnt bad when he's got time but needs to work on kicking under pressure and his fitness has along way to go. But, he's a real competitor and gives you everything he's got.

South Fremantle development manager Jarrod Chipperfield"

This is an honest assesment from his club and also provides a bit of history. He could have easily talked up his carnival performances. Good quality info from South Freo and IF, only thing they didnt mention was his marking ability.

Kicking and fitness is a worry but you'd say his form must have been pretty good despite his preperation to be VC of the WA u18 side.

I bought it this morning Jerome - it's a hell of a good read. They cover every player who was at the draft camp plus another 80 hopefuls, which makes it more like 150 players.

The write-up on Will Gayfer more than backs up what I have seen - and I liked what I saw.

The Bushrangers rep says he will be a long term AFL player - either at CHB or FB. Even at 18 Gayfer makes Bassett look like a toothpick.

I'd be happy with him at #14. There are other options than Hall to cover the ruck.

Thanks for the info Jerome. I got a copy this morning and only had time to read about dozen or so profiles. Hall would be a good option. Every ruckman at early age is a bit of a crappy kick under pressure. Hall's endurance is a bit of a worry but to be honest its not a big deal considering he hasn't had a pre-season. A few 7km runs and a bit of a run up to Mt.Lofty and Charlie Walsh's famous killer of a bike ride up to Adelaide hills would do the trick:D He is still only 17, so those things I am not too worried about.

But how about Morrison's profile. Anyone that gets compared to Jonathan Brown tickles my fency:p Because he didn't play this year his stocks might slip a little bit. Hopefully they slip to pick 31:D

I did pick that up Stiffy. Makes you hope that he will slide to #31, but that might be a bit of wishful thinking.

If we fluked getting Gayfer, Morrison and Mott with our 3 draft picks, and took a young ruckman in the rookie draft, I'd be more than satisfied.

That would give us

a strongly built CHB or FB who takes contested marks and can play forward as well. (Gayfer)

a strong marking CHF or FF who can also play back if needed. (Morrison)

a back-up ruckman who could play immediately if required. (Mott)

a young ruckman who could take 2 to 3 years to learn his craft and fill out. (Rookie)

We can only live in dreams. :)

I would be stoked if we got Hall, Morrison/Stewart and Mott and rookie list Whitehead.

Stewart has some question marks over his ability to push himself but he has undoubeted potential. Could take 3 or so years for him to fill out and develop but he is a talent. No question about it. One of those players that you love but that can drive you mad ala birdman. Stewy is such a player that he could feature in play of the day, goals of the day, mark of the day and blooper of the day, all in one game. Definetly worth a punt and he is a bottom ager as is Morrison.
