Down are no chance with Ambrose Rodgers injured, they should have called up Caolan Mooney to replace him in midfield - So c'mon Dermot Earley and the Cribbin enhanced Lilywhites!!!

Down have had a good first half. They got a dodgy ref's decision to go their way to score an early goal and that got their tails up, they lead 1-09 (12) to 0-07 (7)

Marty has been good, making a lot of play and he looks in really good shape.

BBC would not give it to anybody else -will wait and see who the real experts on RTE give it to. Having said that he had a great game but so did the midfield where Kildare were expecting to dominate. Anyway roll on 19th Sept. - Whens the AFL Grand Final?

What a games, Down deserved it though. Kildare will feel hard done by with the first goal..clearly Benny Coulter was in the square. But for me, Down edged it and were the better team.
A really sad start to the match, but the minutes silence was held respectfully, very quiet ground and somber mood. The anthem was a bit strange, kinda raised a few hairs on your neck, but what an atmosphere. Great stuff. You could see what it meant to both teams to have gotten as far as they did.

Down have come on leaps and bounds this year, a new manager who is made of the right stuff, and Martin Clarke has made a massive difference this year, I hope they've a good day out in the All Ireland final, but unforunately I don't want them to win, as they're up against Cork, and we've been waiting long enough for an AI, wont be an easy ask though, Down will really put it up to us.

Can't wait though!

On another note, well done to Cork minors reaching the AI football final, beating Galway by a point. Gutting for Galway but another final for Cork.

highlights of the game here. Clarke is wearing 15 and I think is the only Down player (in the red and black colours) with his socks pulled up, so easy enough to spot. He is taking a free at the start of the second clip below. He played a great game, some great passing and setting up scores.

Marty clarke was fantastic yesterday in croke pk...deserved man of the man but coulter was brill too...God help anyone trying to mark clarke cause it will be a nightmare for them.....will he come back to oz?????

I'd say whether Marty returns here or not may rely almost completely on the result of the final.

If he can get a win, and fulfill a lifelong dream, he may think "what else have I got to achieve in Ireland" and come back to Australia to play in an AFL flag as well.

If his side loses the final though, I'd say he would stay for sure, unfulfilled business and all that.

Having said all that, he may not even be considering coming back here, there's been no real word out of the "Clarke camp", so we are all basically guessing.

Hope he gets his win, and comes back to Collingwood, but either way, I hope he has a great final.
