I was fortunate to sit in the Collingwood's Coaches box last night and i surely did learn a lot.
In the last quarter, Mick paid a hell of a lot of attention on Marty as if he was our game winner. Every 20 seconds he wanted to know who he was playing on and where he is. Out of all the players he called out, Marty would take up 50% of the words he used. It could show that Marty is still developing under Mick's eyes and he is trying to build him into a midfield player. It was quite interesting and hard to detail the info but he was surely interested in everything Marty was involved in.

At one point, St. Kilda scored due to Marty playing off his man.
Mick then said,
"We told him every day, every day this whole bloody week that that is not what he is ment to do. You have to know what to do not take a guess. Jesus!!!"

Marty is definitely someone who will be with Mick for years to come.

is your name shaw by any chance :p nah seriously that would be awesome to sit in the coaches box. i thought marty played an alright game last night, he is something special me thinks :D

I'm so bloody jealous mate. I'd love to sit in there and listen to Mick.

What else can you tell us? Tell us everything you remember! :)

Marty is fast becoming our quarterback across half-back. He should be a full-time midfielder eventually.

Not hard to work out why MM was stressing on Marty. Heath is gone and with him a real damaging half back runner, Marty is obviously going to have to take a quantum leap to fill Heater's boots for the rest of the year. No wonder Mick is watching him, he has less than 2 years footy under his belt. He is a phenomenon isn't he?

A friend of my cousins was in the box during the north melbourne match, the second time and apparently Mick was not happy with Pendles at all. To the point where he was swearing etc.

I didn't notice it so much last night, but when I looked at the photos, Marty seems to be backing Leon up a lot of the time. They make a good team.

He's sort of a barometer.

When he plays well and runs it out of defense we look good.

I found his stats on Champion data interesting - 100% game time, 0 critical errors. With a tank like that no wonder he's pegged for an onballer.

To my eye, he has these strengths:

1. He has an elite tank.

2. He is an excellent kick.

3. He is a great decision maker and thinker (when taking into account his lack of experience).

4. He is totally committed.

5. His is of outstanding character.

I don't see why he cannot eventually move into the midfield in the next few years and become an elite play maker. He has all the tools.

Totally agree. Love the way he is developing this year.

Let's not forget this is his first full AFL season and he will only improve. He seems to me to have the same quality as Bucks, in that he will work hard to get everything out of himself.

Totally agree with this. He's absolutely fantastic. I've also noticed that he's a good tackler as well.
