If it is any good as the UK version, then this could be a surprise hit for Ten next year.

Hopefully they follow the same formula with the judges - ie a largely unknown but successful restaraunter and some other foodie type (providor etc).

Voice over person is critical too.

Yeah this is a good show and i am sure channel 10 will find a way of ****ing it up but i like Top Chef much better.

Padma >>>> anyone on Masterchef.

Yup, the British one is great viewing.

Cant wait to see how ten stuff it up.

Unfortunately I have the same low expectation. Masterchef UK is basically unmissable viewing in my household, but I have a dread fear that it'll be hosted here by someone who was once on Neighbours.

I find Top Chef more entertaining, but both are great shows.

TC has such a solid and likeable judging panel - namely Padma, Collichio and the only tolerable bloke from Queer Eye.

Top Chef is more entertaining from a challenge point of view, but id have both on a similar level.

So glad that baldy twat isn't on it. There's only so many times I can hear one ******** claim "it's like angels are dancing in my mouth" or other such shite.

Top Chef > Masterchef, but only just and they're obviously very different beasts.

Caught some Masterchef on fox the other day and for a cooking show it's pretty good. I don't want to go all Wingate on ya'll but mums been going on how she's going to apply.

I love masterchef UK and the 2008 series marathon on foxtel last night really has me intrigued as to how channel 10 is going to go with it.

Can they get 2 great judges to host it? Can they get a good voiceover person to compliment the show.

Can they get great contestants with good personalities and great food knowledge to match the likes of Steven (2007 winner) James (2008 winner) or get someone so young and talented like Emily (2008 runner-up)

I shall be watching with interest

Paul

The other day some Indian lady cooked samosas with a yoghurt dipping sauce. Baldy - "first it slaps you round the face, then it gives you a light kiss and takes you straight to heaven".

Anyway I look forward to Ch 10 stuffing it up. Wouldn't surprise me to see something like... voiceover - Christi Malthouse, Judge 1 - Huey, judge 2 - cooking guru and barbeque expert Matthew Hayden.

to be hosted by Sarah Wilson (whoever she is...why does it even need a host?) and judges will be George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston. from the look of the previews the format has been completely changed

looks like it will be a bigger **** up than Iron Chef America

George Calombaris is the owner of the press club
Gary Mehigan - 10's ready steady cook
Matt Preston - food critic

interesting line up of judges

I've seen the ads too - why are they f**king around with the format ????

And there is no need for a host

Apparantly the last 12 or so live in a big brother type compound whlst they are gradually eliminated.

Why do Australian TV execs insist on dumbing down shows ?
They could have done a perfectly acceptable local version based purely on the UK show and it would have worked.

Hopefully the ads aren't a predictor of what is to come.

so they've taken Masterchef and turned it into a combination of Top Chef, Hells' Kitchen and Survivor

...i'm so astounded by how dumb this show sounds that i'm completely lost for words

Predicting this to be a massive flop then.

A real shame because there is a huge market for a decent locally made cooking show on free to air TV and this will most probably scare anyone else from making one for another few years.

However I do know that some of the more talented contestants have been voted out via 'politicking' amongst the contestants because they felt that certain contestants were a threat.
Well, i'm off to burn down channel 10. How can they even get away with calling this show 'Masterchef'??

Wouldn't have thought 15-26yo's are too interested in cooking. Target audience I would have thought for masterchef would be 30 to 50 which is a great demographic for advertisers - especially considering that the audience would most probably appeal to females so you get the grocery buyers as well.

Idiotic decision to turn this into a BB type show.

slightly off topic - but can anyone name the piece of music they use for the ads?
it sounds operatic, but I can't place it and it's giving me the a-grade s***s.

"Its time to cook for your life"...

Hearing that put me right off.
