Comment: I think the match ups look right, but I just can't see Jones and Clarke starting on the bench.

Injuries:

Dal Santo quadriceps strain test
Hamill foot injury test
Hudghton hamstring strain 1-2 weeks
Koschitzke ankle injury 4-6 weeks
Wulf knee injury 1-2 weeks

Davies fractured tibia 6-8 weeks
Hazell shoulder injury 4-6 weeks
Hodge hand fracture 1-2 weeks
Hunter hamstring strain test
Loats foot stress fracture 4-6 weeks
McCabe knee MCL 4-6 weeks

Form:

The Saints won three in a row (against Geelong, Western Bulldogs and Carlton) before travelling to Subiaco and being soundly beaten by Fremantle. Last week, the Saints set about challenging the “subi-hoodoo” but were soundly beaten by Collingwood.
Injuries to Hudghton and Koschitzke in the Fremantle match will play a significant bearing on the team make up until the break (mid June).

The Hawks were travelling well until the 5th round match against Richmond, where they held an enormous lead, but capitulated to lose the match by 20 pts.
An extraordinary meeting with many club figures was held and the team responded with a win against the Blues. Since then, the Hawks have played poorly, losing to Kangaroos, Essendon and Geelong. This last game was seen by many pundits as a possible battle for the wooden spoon.
Injuries to Hodge and Loats hurt this already depleted team and the unlucky suspension to Ben Dixon (who has stood out this year) makes the task of beating the Saints that much harder.

Key Match-Ups:

Hawthorn defender Jade Rawlings will have the task of minding young-gun Saint Nick Riewoldt, while Jonathan Hay is likely to get the job on Fraser Gehrig.
Joel Smith or Simon Cox will match up on St Kilda skipper Aaron Hamill (if passed fit). Luke Penny is set to have the task on Hawks’ forward Nathan Thompson, and impressive youngster Matthew Maguire will probably line up on Nick Holland.
Robert Harvey is likely to run-with Hawthorn skipper Shane Crawford and Angelo Lekkas is likely to tag Lenny Hayes. The ruck will be interesting with St Kilda opting to go into this game with only one ruck. Trent Knobel plays his first senior game this year, pitted against the imposing Peter Everett. Probably no one anywhere knows Everett’s game better, but this is still a big ask for the 202 cm ex-Lion.

Discussion:

Many pundits expect that whoever gains the ascendency early will probably win.
I’m sure that if the Saints get a good lead early, the Hawks will be disheartened (both players and crowd). The Hawks will come out firing to prevent this. I believe the Saints will gain the ascendency in the second and third quarters and will win this game by 40 or more points.

Points of Interest:

The performances of Trent Knobel, Allan Murray, both having their first senior game this year.

Improvement from Troy Schwarze and Heath Black

Spider Everett up against his old team.
