ok so ive got a good mate, we will call him 'x'. and one of his ex's i fancy, and i think shes pretty keen on me aswell.

now ill just give you a background story on them. they dated for a couple years in high school, broke up about 2 years now... heres the intresting part, when they broke up the girl decided to turn lesibian, i dont think 'x' took it very well and trys to think hes a player with the ladies now, probably to get us all to forget how he turned his girlfriend gay. both have dated other people since, with the girl dating another female for a while.

now me and the girl have hooked up a couple times, i dont think 'x' know just how far we have gone either...anyway i have a feeling that 'x' may still like this girl, when hes out or at partys when hes drinking (soft drinker might i add), he tends to try and get all over her. so im not sure if he is over her, but i do know that she is well and truley over him and there just friends now.

now im not sure on whether i should go after her or not, dont really want to piss off my mate or anything like that, but i do want this girl...

is it alright to go after her? seeing as they have been sperated for a while and it was in high school?

yeh i see where your coming from with that. he actually does know about the 1st time we hooked up, he was right next to us when is happend (it sounds bad i know but let me explain!). it was almost as if he encouraged us, he asked me how long i have found her to be hot, which i answered honeslty (after they broke up BTW... she wasnt the best looking girl at school but shes really done her self up and looks great now). she was really happy that i said i thought she was really hot and pretty much started hooking up with me there and then. i asked my mate how he felt about it a few days later and he said he was fine with it, but i wasnt 100% sure if he was or not.

I think you've already shown what sort of regard you have for your supposedly 'good mate'. It sounds like you don't really care about whether going out with her is appropriate or not, what you really care is whether he's going to make a big deal about it if you do (since he'll obviously find out).

The classy thing to do would be to clear it with him first, and if he has an issue with it then back off. The way I figure it is that most people only have a handful of close mates, and each of them probably only have one or two really serious exes (if that). There's 3 billion women in the world - if you can't keep it in your pants around a dozen or so of them for the sake of your best mates then you're probably not that great a friend anyway.
