Toast Mathematically Guaranteed Finals in 2017

MOST of the time you get what you deserve in sport. We haven't played the most unbelievable footy this year but have just kept on winning, much like 2013 and 2015. I'd say based on the year so far we deserve top 4 but we only TRULY deserve it if we can beat two sides that we should beat in the next two games. I consider the first Saints result an aberration. Has to be based on the rest of our season. Other than the N. Riewoldt factor they shouldn't have much to play for. We have everything to play for. We have plenty of people on our coaching staff that have experienced premierships that should be able to get through to our blokes that they can't be complacent. Unfortunately that doesn't guarantee anything!!!
It's going to be an interesting last two games.

Confess to being a bit concerned about tomorrow's game.

Dimma has revealed the team has been operating to a 'play fun footy' mantra this season, admitting he was too serious last season - that he was as much at fault as any one person in 2016. So throughout this season our next week/game was just another game - OK a bit more serious than that, but you get my drift?! There have been some structures and team rules, but the dominant approach was to play fun footy. None of us can argue this hasn't worked well so far...

Well now there is some real pressure on - our destiny is in our own hands. We must win this week. Even footballers can see that we have to win this week or risk finishing 6th (Syd and Port have Carl and GC next).

This won't be finals pressure, but it will be pressure - self created pressure and expectation. Whilst not abysmal at it, we are not good at handling it either. Freo are flip floppy, but better at home. We seem to travel well enough because the players get out of the Melbourne cauldron. I hope the players aren't unconsciously creating their own cauldron. There is a little bit of a do or die feeling about it.

It's a test bigger than it reads on paper.

Port with guernsey / kick into wind saga
Roos with last round rest players saga.

Might be a bit of controversy if we finish 3rd and cats have to play at the mcg. if theres no other games at the mcg ie Melb and Ess finish 7th and 8th, is it a rule that there has to be at least one game at mcg?

If we beat Freo and St. Kilda we'll finish 3rd or 4th.

If we win one, and lose one, we'll finish 5th or 6th.

If we lose both, we could theoretically finish anywhere between 5th and 8th depending on other results.

But.... again, to point out the positives....

We can't miss the Top 8.

Most people had us in the Bottom 6 this year, including most posters on this board.

So this is a fantastic result all the same, and it's our job now to prepare for finals in the best possible way.

Pre-season, I thought we at least could make finals. So for the first half of the year I was not overly surprised, but since then we've gone from finals side to a side with their position in the top 4 resting entirely in their own hands with 2 weeks to go. I never imagined this.
