Wilkes is no spud. BOG's left and right in WAFL. He spoils his opponent at least and your still willing to put Spangher up above him?

Not sure what relevance the WAFL has? Last time I checked we were talking about the AFL.

When have I ever said Spanger is better than Wilkes?

I'm not sure why Spangher and Wilkes are compared, they aren't similar players. Wilkes is a KPP , Spanger is a third tall / rebounding HBF. Wilkes is better in a one on one contest, Spanger provides more run out of defence, depends on what the requirements are each week. Wilkes has been kept out of the team by Glass, McKenzie and Brown at the moment.

Spangher wont cut it as a KPD he might as a rebounding defender, does well as a KPD at WAFL level but you can forget about that, like Wilkes that is deceptive, Wilkes lacks a little speed to cut it at AFL level.

Was hoping Spangher could show a little more early on in the season with a good game against Brisbane and some good preseason form against Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond has been poor.

Cant be all that critical of his kicking, had one really bad game. Still averages above 83% efficency and just over one clanger a game. Id rather he was in the side than Nicoski who has no defensive side, while his boot is also rather efficent he makes to many critical errors.

If the Spang does not make the grade by the end of 2010 then we have J.Jones who looks like a far better prospect.

Just watching the replay on One.

Never seen a bloke so out of position, so often for a defender.

Has he ever been tried forward?

Hate to say it, but he fills me with as much confidence as a defender as Fletch does as a sharpshooter.

Would much rather see Schofield in the side.

He's more athletic and better at ground level. Can find allot of the ball rebounding at WAFL level so why not. I hope he can turn into a KPP given his size and athletic ability.

He's also a bit taller so will be able to play on those bigger guys every now and then.
But he has rarely played a real bad game. Been dropped a couple of time for match-ups but not really on his performances!

I always had Wilkes ahead of Spangher, I think because of his body size and the fact he is a little quicker and a little better with his disposal than Wilkes the coaching staff wanted to persist with him. If I had to choose a CHB between Wilkes and Spangher id pick Wilkes every day of the week, he is also adding some tricks to his game and is an effective forward at WAFL level. I rekon Wilkes could make it in defence as a third tall above Spangher.

And, as I keep saying, Wilkes can kick straight - to a man and for goal.

Wilkes by the length of the straight!

Spangher hasnt been too bad IMO, takes the game on, takes risks just needs to work on disposal and decision making. Reminds me a little of Matty Scarlett as that rebounding defender.

I always found Wilkes very tidy and efficient.
Didnt bring much creativity to the table but if the ball was coming in, i was confident in his ability to get it out of defence.

Spangher,
i dont know,
he's ok, lots of upside,
but for me id rather a clean tidy defender rather than someone with flair.

Spangher gets shown up for pace as a last line defender, he seems to be far more effective as a run with type player and that's where I see genuine value with him in the long term.

If the ball comes in at the right angle then every defender in the league will struggle to get a fist to the ball under the current rules. Spangher was very good against the Hawks and he drew praise from this board because of it.

I think he is a more effective player than Schofield at this time, not as good as Wilkes & Mackenzie as genuine key defenders but he has great value in other ways.

What specifically makes you think Spangher can be a good run with player?

I think he is totally exposed to the point where opposition coaches are telling there players to kick to whoever happens to be on spangher at the time because they know he is the weakest link defensively. I dont think I have seen much in his defensive "lock down" work to say he would be a good run with player.

I actually didn't think he was that bad today. Redeemed himself to an extent in the second half.
