Toast Mathew Stokes

Last weeks ep was a pisser with the kids questioning Vardy & Walker.
Question to Vardy - "How old are you ?"
Answer "21 years and 5 months.....{long pause}.......oh wait,21 years and 11 months"

Thank god Vards can play footy because he seems to have a few sheep loose in the top paddock :D

BTW was the little blond kid last week Alfie Wojcinski ?

Michael Jordan's father in an interview:

"Michael would come into the workshop to help me and his elder brother. Mike was hopeless. Thank God he can play basketball. Because if he had to work for a living, he'd starve to death." :D

(ps my recollection)

Stating the bleedin' obvious, but was just going over the Fremantle win, and the question is worth repeating - how friggin' momumental has Stokes been this year? Was easily one of the best on the park, took the brunt, dusted it off. If we can go all the way this year, a fired up Stokes will be one of the reasons for our greatness. An incredible year.

Isnt he a FA at years end?
He is a Geelong bloke thru and thru I feel but he is playing like a guy making sure his contract is good next year. And right now he deserves it too...

Just hope it is here...:D

Yes FA. And considering his form there will be suiters. When we have all done the Dosey Doe on who will be going at years end but too many time has Stoke been considered. But I'd imagine if a club had cap room , and Stokes would like to set himself up , there would be plenty that would value him. Put it this way , he has far better form to attract than Shagga had.

For eg. Id imagine if the Dogs trade out a player like Griffen to get P1 , they would have a heap of dollars to get someone like Stokes

I always remember Stokes crashing into a centre clearance in 07 gf after previously looking like he had done an ACL....always thought since then he could play at a higher level, just wasn't sure if he could sustain it. He even sprouted his midfield desire in 08 pre season.....the fact he is doing what he is right now shouldnt come as massive surprise, is just off the back of hard work

I just cant see the Dogs trading Griffen.
Freo also need a key forward so maybe they have more to offer.

Griffen would be a huge dice roll , and whether they would be willing to go that hard is debatable. But I cant see any other asset that would get them P1.

How ironic if Freo trade a P1 in, since they were the last to trade P1

I'd be trading out Varcoe while the footy community still over hype an unrealised talent.
The guy has shoulder issues and struggles to get into a hard game, his stats over the years are very poor when the cred he's received is weighed alongside.

Seriously,....cut the guy now and get a Griffin, the dogs just might be dumb enough to swallow the hype.

To trade Stokes would be like cutting our nose off to spite our own face, he's our leading disposal winner forgoodnasakes.

Varcoe has very little currency on the open market, because of his injuries. No way would we get anywhere near Griffen.

Varcoe is a chance to go back to South Australia at some stage, the Crows would be a likely destination.

To some on here he's our great weapon, stuffed if I know why they think that way, maybe he tackled Lance Franklin once and won a free kick and kicked the odd impressive goal, but overall the stats are crap, but the media like his name and pump him up like as if we need him so desperately or the like.

I think we could still spin a good story to get a quality player or young talent to the club using him as trade bait, but they'd need to act real soon once they get him healthy for trade season.

Over hyped and over payed, it would allow plenty for a quality replacement.

Varcoe's huge contract is another stumbling block, we would have to swallow some of his salary. He was given big deal after 2011. Personally I think he is tradeable given the emergence of other players since 2011 but I just can't see a club taking a risk on him given his salary and that would we also want an early pick.

It would be a real sickener to get rid of him as he is favourite of a lot of people but value for money wise, his body is not just reliable enough for a salary north of 400 per year.

How stupid to consider him a favorite when he sucks so much out and gives sweet diddly, since when did the GFC become a charity institution?
Do you get paid to stay home because the boss likes you??
No! so get over it! Stoksey stays coze he stays on the park, leads the club in disposals(easily) and is second to Jimmie in dream team points, that's how you gauge value!!!
Trade him for someone while we can.

Can't wait to have all of Stokes, Varcoe, Johnson, Motlop and Christensen in the same side.

Speed, skill and smarts in spades. No club has the ability to shut them all down.

We may even have the luxury of holding back one of them (most likely Varcoe) as a sub, which could be a quite devastating weapon late in games.

Someone woke up on the bitchy side of the bed today

Don't be a Ryan Griffen apologist. The guy has only gathered 322 disposals this year. Why would we chase Griffen when we could easily go after Matt "324 disposals" Priddis?

(ps my recollection)

I remember reading something along the lines of James Jordan being very handy with cars and that sort of thing. When Michael used wander over and stick his head under the bonnet, his dad would snap at him to get back in the house 'with the rest of the women'.

I'm picturing Sydney making a play for it, solely to send the Melbourne footy community into meltdown.

After all, there is nothing that says you have to use the #1 on Boyd.

Question is, do Sydney have something GWS want?

Stokes is FA , no trade and no say in it if he wants to go

Meto just taking another opportunity to slag TV. Nothing new here we should just move on before the thread gets derailed.

Can't really see Stokesy going anywhere as a free agent. Club took a punt on him as a mature age recruit supported him through his drug possession mishap and gave him a couple premiership medallions as a bit parts player.

Would be pretty poor for him to up and leave after having a breakout season where he has become a genuinely integral part of the side.

That depends on the way you look at it. Just how much does he have accept to "repay". If The Cats offer 200 , 300 less?

If Meto is known for being anti TV , previous to this year Stokes hasn't been my fav. He has played his best no doubt but with the talent we have coming thru and will pick up. I wonder if it may be better for us long term to lose a player that will be 29 next year and to find a spot for a younger player. May hurt cause Stokes has been A grade. Better than I would have hoped and precisely what I wanted for some time but if we are really setting up for 2015 then an extra 20 plus game into another younger may be better long term.

Im not advocating trading him but if he chose to leave then I would not get in his way, or go crazy to keep him.

What and keep paying TV 400K plus for nothing, trade the drop kick and get a regular contributor.
Is the GFC a TV charity?......we're a joke!

Will agree if he wants to leave let him. I just don't think he will nor that anyone's going to pay him that much more from 1 year of A grade footy.

But if he does and wants to take the money fine. I've never been keen on trying to keep players that don't want to play for the side 100%
