Re: Mathews>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sheedy

Guess you havnt spent much time in Queensland then have you ? Lethal is on Tv or in the paper every 5 minutes ;)

Yeah I have. Lethal coaches one team in a developing state, it's necessary for him to be the spokesperson for the club/code up there, pretty obvious really.
You'll note that Lethal actually makes sense when he speaks and provides a lot more food for thought that Sheedy. Martians, Marshmallows, Seaguls, Hot August nights, lines on the ground to create no go zones and stating Lloyd's relatively quiet game last week was the best he's ever seen from an Ess captain pretty much sums it up.

Re: Mathews>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sheedy

So it's not self-promotion is Matthews does it, only when it's Sheedy?

whatever that means...

he needs to promote the club & code in a one team state competing with NRL - totally different. 90% of it doesn't leave the state so he isn't really targeting the wider footy world now is he?

Because everyone knows Sheedy's done nothing for footy around the country

never said that, but amongst the positives Sheedy may have achieved there has also been plenty of dribble, hype and laughable spin. Good luck to him in his final season though.

What's the bet Sheedy coaches Essendon in 2008?

What's the bet Sheedy coaches Essendon in 2008?

no it should read whats the bet the board gets suckered in again and reappoints him for a further 3 years?

$1.85

Re: Mathews>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sheedy

matthews is a better coach and a much, much better player.

so on that basis...

so what, Matthews is known as one of the best players ever, does that make Sheedy crap does it? FFS i wish people wouldn't write sometimes.

on the record both have 4 flags both equal as coach, Matthews better player no doubt but unless one of them gain an extra flag as coach then they are equal.

better player, means better footy man.

except matthews has taken on challenges.
he took on Collingwood and got them a flag, FFS collingwood!!!!!!!!!!

then he took on the bears, when they were bottom, and got them 3 flags!!!!!!!!!

not even close.

Would like to have seen Sheedy coach another club to really get an idea of his overall ability. Being at the one club has meant that he has fathered the list for 26 years, yet yielded only 2 flags in the past 21.

Lethal won flags at 2 basket case clubs.

Lethal is a good coach, but remember Lions had just merged with the bears and had a bunch of talent before Lethal arrived, that team got 3 flags, even Grant Thomas would have gotten 3 out of that team. Sheedy has built 2 flags from scratch in 93 and 00 (84, 85 teams were there before Sheeds)

Matthews built Collingwoods flag, but he gets too much credit for the Lions when he had very little to building them into the team they became.

That's like me saying Thomas would have won Essendon 3 flags b/w '99 and '01.

I think you'll find Lethal built a very committed unit. They were wooden spooners the year before he took over. He then took them to a prelim in '99, semis in '00 and well...you know the rest.

utter rubbish.

they finished LAST the year Matthews took them over.

repeat, wooden spooners. last.

they were a shambles, and lets clear here Chris Johnson & Jarrod Molloy did not get them no 3 premierships.

agreed. 93 was luck, 2000 was a fine team.

but he still did it at a strong, continuous powerhouse club. all the while turning his nose up at the real challenge that had his name all over it - ninthmond.

that's a fiction, which is why you've not tried to substantiate it.

bottom, last place. the bears FFS. the worst team in the league, with no hope, no tradition, no support, and another spoon for the cabinet.

amazing how history gets rewritten.

So he was promoting a his club in Queensland by being on the back page of a Melbourne paper because he was bagging the rules of the game. Yep, seems to me that's a great avenue of promoting the game.

Essendon were a powerhouse when Sheedy took over?

have a look at the list Matthews got when he first started as coach, it was pretty much the same team that won 3 in a row.

When Sheedy started at Essendon we were a basket case, hardly taking over a "powerhouse club". If only Sheeds got the concessions Lethal had at the Lions

amazing how history gets re-written:rolleyes:

93 luck? there is no such thing as luck my friend when it comes to winning flags. or are you saying it's lucky the crows choked in the prelim to get us in to begin with?

struggling here..

He actually came up with an interesting viewpoint. Unlike sheedy who wanted lines all over the ground to denote no go zones for players, Lethal suggested an interchange system to cater for injured players on one hand yet limit the no. of interchanges, hence making the game a survival of the fittest type scenario - might go some way to curb flooding. It probably needed tinkering but the concept was valid. I didn't see him come out and say his captain played the best game he'd ever seen (by a captain) since he was coach..dimentia kicking in I'd say

so the coach isn't allowed to speak highly of our captain:confused: Is Sheeds suppose to come out each week with a new rule for the game?

talk about struggling............ next:thumbsu:

so you agreed that was the best performance by an essendon captain in 26 years?

of course it wasn't, it was just another typically sugar coated comment.

Yes but Matthews has beaten Sheedy in their only two head to head clashes,'90 & '01. I think this puts him in front.

Anycoach who gets the Pies to a premiership deserves 3 premiership medallions.

Matthews-6>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sheeds-4.

And Sheeds couldn't coach Richmond to a flag if he tried, cause he isn't good enough.

He doesn't want to go to Richmond purely because all the hype about him will go away.

The real test is Richmond Sheeds otherwise I don't rate you.:p

...money money money
...must be funny...
in a rich mans world.

Hope you heard him on SEN yesterday when he did a complete backflip on what he said in the paper. He simply said that he didnt want to change the rules he was just pondering what the game could be like. He wasnt sure of what the answer would be.

By the way Lloyd didnt have a quiet game last week, 20 possessions and two golas from CHF wasnt a bad hit out ;)
