This is a very stupid question, but my minds gone blank, just a maths question here.
How the hell do you work out the;

Mean
Median
Mode

When you have a set of data (e.g. 24,25,28,26,38,27,48,46,35,37,45,24,34)

Anyone know? my minds gone blank!!

I'm not sure which is which, but one is the number than occurs the most frequently. For the other one, you put the numbers in order and get the middle one.

The one that occurs most frequently is the mode, i.e. in 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4 and 5 - the mode is 4.

The one in the middle is the median, i.e. in 1, 3, 6, 10, 65 - the median is 6.

Ahhhhh thanks guys, cheers. Trust the dees fan to be in with the answer first ;)

But thanks to all who helped, i might just pass yet :)

Not on that form.:D

Alright, people beat me to it, but I still want my say. ;)

To help you remember it:

Mean - well, it's really common knowledge that it's the average.
Median - sounds kinda like medium, so it's the medium (middle) number.
Mode - Has the same start - 'mo' - as most, as in most occuring.

OK, so my mind works in funny ways, and remembers things strangely when I first learn them. It gets weirder, you should hear how I first learnt a few basics in Chemistry. ;) :D

Fer chrissakes, get ya textbook out and look it up, ya lazy sod.

I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Heres one for all you maths wizards!

Solve:

(Sin A + Cos A) squared = 1 + 2 Sin A Cos A

Order the numbers first:
24,25,28,26,38,27,48,46,35,37,45,24,34
becomes
24,24,25,26,27,28,34,35,37,38,45,46,48

n = 13
SUM(n) = 437

mean = 437 / 13 = 33.62
median = (13+1)/2 = 7th number in the ordered set = 34
mode = 24

just remember, the median will be the mean of the two middle numbers where n is even

huh? say you have 10, 10, 15, 20, 25, 25. thus n=6

median = (6+1)/2 = 3.5th number = (15+20)/2 = 17.5

and the mode can be a set of numbers. in my example, the mode is 10,25.
