Specialist isn't that hard, I am getting a better mark in it compared to Methods.

Gimme some Trig over Stats anyday.

Are you serious??

Stats is my speciality, aced it in Studies,.

Trig is okay, but the indepth stuff gets fked up.

I'm on exactly 50% for specialist, but I've started to understand the concepts recently.

Actually i can, but i dont find the need to gloat about it. Unlike u..bit insecure maybe??

Me?

I got an above-average mark in Methods by doing very little revision, and got a higher ENTER than probably most people in this thread. Got into the course I wanted easily which involved doing trig & calculus in both physics and chemistry.

Insecure? Nup.

Ugh. I agree.

Unless they changed the MM course recently I'm pretty sure there's no stats involved - just probability. Stats is much worse :p

YOUR AWESOME

So what?

Does that make you smarter than them? Hell no. I have known of many people who have had their ENTER in the 90's but struggled at uni. On the flip side, I have also known of people who didn't do as well yet got into TAFE or uni and passed with distinctions or higher.

What you are doing is essentially gloating about your ENTER, which is quite pathetic to be honest.

Just cause you get a low enter doesnt mean you're an idiot. Tradies can do stuff that the academically gifted cant, and vice versa.

Ha. When someone implies that I am insecure academically, I'm giving them a reason that I'm not. Didn't say I was smarter than anybody, just that I got a good score and it got me where I wanted, and therefore I could hardly be insecure. Interesting that you didn't see the rest of it as 'gloating' since it wasn't a 'score', even though chem and physics at uni I found much harder than achieving a good TER.

Given that my best friend in high school got a TER in the 50s and now has a CV the size of a thesis, I'm well aware that TER is not an indication of anything.

It is curious just how off-limits the mentioning of good VCE achievements is though...for example Bombers1234's instant retaliation to people (not me) talking about their own achievements...if it means so little, why are some people so precious about it?

Actually.. you did

I think the "than probably most people in this thread" bit got you in trouble :o

That aside, I'm also a bit perplexed by people who treat VCE TER as a taboo subject. No-one in their right mind would argue that it's a perfect measure of future success. If you've done well in VCE, however, it does indicate that you either worked hard or are strong in the subjects you chose and usually both.
To say that your VCE score counts for nothing though, is just as logical as saying it means everything.

As to the original post that got this all started;

I love reading all the posts from ppl who love stroking their egos and bragging about what maths they do at uni..priceless!

It's a thread about maths and whether you found it hard, and what in particular you found hard about it. If you don't like discussing what maths you do, why are you in the thread to begin with?

Probably, however it was just a stupid bite in retaliation to the idiot who asked me if I was insecure and wondered why everyone was talking about their maths achievements. My way of saying piss off. ;) That said, in retrospect there appear to be quite a few maths nerds in this thread, who probably got scores of 99 and therefore beat me...

People should still be proud of VCE results though. At that stage of your life it's usually the hardest thing you've done and you shouldn't have to hide your achievements if you worked your arse off.

My point was that you gloated, and you did.

Good. Just making sure.

I don't think it should be "off limits", and you'd have to ask them why they're precious because I cannot answer you that.

In South Australia our maths are called

Math Studies
Specialist Maths

Can someone tell me what you call these in other states. Is Methods specialist??

When I did year 12, the new state curriculum came in, and this was the first year that they did these subjects. Specialist Maths was/is the highest level, and can only be done if you are also doing Maths Studies. Maths Methods was the next level down, and then there was SAS Business Maths (the easiest). I wanted (like may others to do Methods) but apparently there wasnt enough interest from people in my year. Bullshit. 3 people did Spec Maths, and there was 20 of us in Studies that would rather have been doing Methods. Schoolw as looking out for what the teachers wanted to teach, not for what students wanted to learn. :thumbsd:

As for how I did, averaged 8/20 for the year, which was boosted significantly by my exam result to an 13 :thumbsu:. Must have got around 90% in the exam and i (no one in my class did) didnt finish it. :thumbsu:

Its all bullshit, derivatives, and statistics, polynomials etc etc is all uselss. I found Maths useful up until about Year 10 level, after that it was a waste of time. Only Maths I need is remembering certain numebrs for work (times, temps), and the formula 6x + y = z (where x = goals, y = behinds, and z = total score). :thumbsu:

To the person i called insecure, you are way overreacting. The truth of the matter is, you are probably studied like a freak through high school and got results, and that was probably your main objective at the time.

Im in Year 12 now and i get average results, but my main objective is not to get outstanding results, but prolly to get drunk as much and as many times possible, and then deal with my life after high school as it comes.

My point is that you shouldnt feel superior to others just becuase u did good in school. The richest people on the Earth are probably bussiness people who might have not even gone to uni but were just hardworking people who worked there way to the top.

Sure, discuss maths all you want but there is no need to gloat about ur academic acheivments. Because deep down inside i know you were. :)

I doubt they got to the top by having the aim of getting as drunk as possible though :p

All I remember from maths is the hot chick in front of me, SAKATA (trigonometry? as in S-oh C-ah T-oa - also called it Soccer Tour) and pi, used to make me crave a four and twenty everytime without fail!
