Matt Burgan's Phantom Draft on AFL.com.au
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=127295
Has us picking:

10: David Trotter
12: Brent Hall
19: Matthew Moody
27: Jacob Surjan
43: Brett Peake

While I'd be pretty happy to have Moody and Surjan, our first two picks there seem a bit dodgy. I would much rather have either Mclean or Waters over Trotter and Hall.

I trust Phil Smart and co.

Whoever we pick up, I'll be happy with. They've been following these players closely so I'm pretty sure their judgement will be far superior to ours.

Ever since Croad returned to the Hawks, "she with the whip" has wondered who she'll be able to perve on next year, whilst she watches our team.

Please Phil, draft someone with nice legs, just to keep the Whippet happy.

Fair go, I'm not asking much, just a bit of peace and quiet :-

"why did they get rid off Croad", "he had cute legs", "he is an athlete" ...........

I've usually found that Matt Burgan is a pretty good judge at these. His phantom drafts are usually somewhere around the mark.

I don't think so, Kenny. I'd be very surpised if we selected Trotter at 10 and Hall at 12, altough it wouldn't surprise me if we selected him at 19 or 27.

In 2002, Burgan only predicted 10 players in their correct positions, which isn't very many considering he apparently has inside information from each club.

The top four is really the only thing that's a certainty for Saturday, the rest is a lottery and whilst Burgan's phantom drafts are an interesting read, I wouldn't pay too much attention to them.

D_J - you got a mention on Dockerland as having a much better fist of the draft and doing much better for the club than the apparent tripe that Burgan came up with. Thought you might like to know if you haven't seen it yet.:)

I'm sure he is dancing in the streets.

Selecting players in their actual positions is difficult mate, but if you get a player within about 5 or 10 spots of where he gets taken (even within a round, later on) or you pick the right club to which the draftee will be going to, then it's a damn good effort. Of course the draft won't actually come close to looking like what he predicited but I think it will be a lot more around the mark than most the other phantom drafts floating around. The top 4 is no certainty either. Just look at last year and the year before.

Kenny,

I find all phantom drafts an interesting read, but I don't think Burgan has done enough to deserve any extra credibility than anyone else.

Having another look at how he fared in 2002, he predicted picks 1, 2, 3 and 5, which weren't too hard, as well as 30, 32, 35, 44 and 51. Sure, he deserves kudos for predicting the last five picks, but the first four were relatively easy to predict and were already bound to happen. Furthermore, he only predicted five players to the correct club in the wrong position and made some major **** ups by including the likes of Kellet, Crawford, Gilmore, Harper and Cripps in his phantom draft.

I'm not doubting Burgan has inside information from each club, but, barring a disaster, nothing other than the top 3/4 is set in stone for Saturday and I'm sure another phantom draft on Bigfooty or anywhere else will be just as accurate, if not more.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I love your Dockerland fixation. Another git got.

I gotta admit, I do love reading your delusional fantasies about Andrew McDougall. Shame you don't post them here!

I'm sure, as a moderator, that you are quite happy for me to stick it to a rival site? I thought so.

Where did you pull that from?
I enjoy the majority of you eagle supporters posting on this board as does everyone else.
I encourage you guys to generate discussion just as I like going to your board and doing the same.
Sarcastic comments that arnt funny really arnt required.

Overall, I thought Burgan's effort was pretty solid. The reason why I'd pick his phantom drafts over the others like the BF one is because he sees the guys play regularly and has inside knowledge. He has been involved in this process for a long time, while a lot of the phantom drafts floating around are somewhat based on hype.

Dockerland is the better site, that probably why
