First of all allow me to say that I get a bendy everytime I watch Foley get the ball. Amazing player, would love to have him at Melbourne. I was watching the game tonight and I could have sworn Foley had burst through a pack only to spray the ball, but it was a trademark burst but then I realised it was young Matt White. The kid looks to be a gem and IMO in a bit of a Foley mould. Kicking needs some improvement but you've got a good player on your hands.

Apologies if the comparisons between the two have been brought up before but I thought it was fair uncanny. Also, bad luck for this evening, Thought it was sewn up with all the injuries but the end was pretty heart breaking. Great game though, all the best fellas:thumbsu:

Yeah we know and he knows it too because of his explosive pace.

Buddied up with Foley in the off-season to learn the trade after an ankle problem ruined his season last year and had people rubbishing him and writing him off.

Had a great effect as you can see him doing those FOley things, but he still hasnt learned to slow up a tad if you have the space before the kick, that's what's hurting him. He'll learn. :thumbsu:

Love Whites explosive pace and it seems like no-one can hold him in a tackle.Actually his old man sometimes posts over on another board so we have the inside word.Needs to do a lot of work on his kicking though.

white is useful in bursts only and seem to lacks stamina to run all day, also let down by poor disposal/decision making
Is only 21 and has less than 25 games under his belt, just needs to learn to slow down before kicking, otherwise they skew rather than pinpoint.

Can I bus a few myths for everyone?

Lacks stamina? The kid came like 1st in the tan run this year IIRC!!

I understand why you'd say his kicking is poor, I used to think the same, but in actual fact his career efficiency is around 85% - in the elite bracket.

Even if you disagree with the stats, at least this means he is capable of being a good kick, and like Foley, has room for improvement :thumbsu:

agree with that....just learn to slow down before kicking when on the run....much like foley had to learn to do a couple of years back....
we can see that whitey has pretty solid kicking mechanics..that's not a problem...pinpointed a pass to a leading tambling in the 2nd half....so we know he's certainly capable....

also...we can see that he's improved with his kicking for goal on the run....3 weeks back in his first senior game of the season....he missed a few easy ones running towards goal....but he's been able to nail them in the past few games....shows he's been working on it

Well when everyone was begging for him to come in, I was begging for him not to come in.
I still don't know how I feel about the kid but I can see him becoming a regular, so phoenix_rise_ we had a bit of a disagreement but I apologize.
You could be right. :thumbsu:

You're one of the few people with the balls to come back and acknowledge he might now be a player. Respect. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

What I love about Matty is he has the work ethic...busts his arse every time he is on the ground. Definately needs a fair bit more polish to his game, but fantastic to see him coming on this year:thumbsu:

The great thing about White is that he's shown the rest of the young boys how far you can go in one season if you put the work in.

Was really happy with his game last night, especially the fact he finished off his hard work with a couple of straight kicks.

I've said this before, but it's going to be extremely hard working out which players to cut at the end of this season. White and Moore were at the head of many lists, but not anymore.

Has made it VERY difficult for Raines to get back in.

I don't think they are competiting for the same spot. If Rainesy is fit I imagine he will comeback through Coburg anyway and then take Jacksons spot.

Jacko has definatly gone backwards this year. Stops and props SO MUCH!

Meanwhile, Matty Whites game last night was up there with Tamblings and Deledios IMO

Not with you here, reckon Jacko's been great. He's our hard nut and he actually cares, tries his heart out. I also think White and Raines' games are very similar. Raines needs to go back to his second season when he shut down the small forwards like Riccuito and Johnson. That is his role now one feels.

not really rainesy spot, whitey's an in/under mid that is quick, rainesy is a defender that cant defend...Mcguane has his spot and is likely to keep it
Good post BJ.:thumbsu:
Thought McGuane was excellent last night too.
i think if anyone is making comparisons with Raines, then King has his spot. I don't think we can play King and Raines in the same side. In fact I'm certain of it. King has gone past Raines. Got given his chance and has taken it.
Raines will simply need to knuckle down and work harder to get back in. But Raines and King are just too similar. Both like to run and dash, but have very little defensive pressure. And at the moment King seems to generate more run and dash than Raines ever did.

yes, good call tugg I think Kingys got it in him to fine tune those defensive areas , someone hit nail on head when suggested he still plays like it the diamond valley where good players simply disregard their opponents. He's a tough little customer and needs to strike the balance. I havent seen those qualities in rainsey, I hope he can reinvent himself:thumbsu:

Is a good overhead mark as well.

I think he is one of those players that will kick one or two goals a game. Like Geelong and Hawthorn, the two in form sides, they win because their midfielders kick goals.
