Matt Wright Attacked

Just heard this on Channel 10. Was apparently helping the missus into a cab and was smashed over the head with a bottle, causing a massive gash to the face and a fractured skull.

Jars said he felt sick when he heard the news and hopes the coward gets caught. I have to agree, poor kid. Lets hope he gets well soon and back on the track but his hopes of being drafted this year might be over.

Footy now takes a back seat for a while due to this gutless wonder. A fractured skull and swelling of the brain, pretty hefty injuries and I just hope he gets back to good health. Hes currently listed as serious but stable which isnt good but at least he is stable. This does happen way to often in Adelaide these days, I mean im not exactly the biggest guy going around so theres no way I walk around town at night by myself...... seems as if you dont even have to be on your own anymore for w***ers to attack you.
 
I would love to know what kinda bottle. Bottles usually dont do a lot of damage, more for the spectacle of looking hard. Unless its a beam bottle or something.

Thats what I thought too, usually they just smash. Either way its still no good and gutless.
 
He's still in hospital.

Fluid on the brain and a fractured skull.

Gutless ****ing prick.

Apparently his dad went there afterwards and cut sick at everyone, ended up getting hit with a hammer or something himself. Not so sure on the last part though.

I was at the Schutzenfest one year when they still had glass steins. A guy hit another guy with the stein to the temple, the stein smashed and the guy started pissing blood, it was gushing everwhere, I have no idea how the guy managed to stand. He eventually fell and it wasnt a pretty sight, the guy was in some serious trouble, we had to leave the scene because the girls we were with were physically sick.

I saw on the news a couple of days later that the guy had a fractured skull and was mm away from brain damage or death, so I guess it is possible to fracture a skull with a glass bottle but as others said it would have to be a heavy duty bottle.

Awful news for the lad. There's some absolute scum out there, and, as others have mentioned, this sorta thing happens way too often in this city. I have a very close friend whom was recently subject to a similar random attack. He's not the type of bloke to even look at another guy the wrong way - just happened to be on the wrong street at the wrong time. He walked away from it in better shape than Matty Wright though. It makes me absolutely sick that there's people out there who would do things like this. I'm generally a supporter of the privacy argument, but attacks like this really make me wish we had an extensive London-esque CCTV system. I hope the scumbag gets caught.

It would be very likely to cause damage if it were a spirit bottle, but if you get hit the wrong way in the wrong place with a beer bottle and you're unlucky, there's a strong chance you'll end up with more than just a couple of cuts and a concussion too.
 
My son was at the the same party in para visa on friday night - a bottle was thrown at Matt as he left he party outside - 1 week in hospital.

He has had to forgoe year 12 exams due to his condition as well.

ok, just spoke to a friend who is friends with the family, apparently the bottle was thrown at him as he was puttin his missus into the taxi was taken to the modbury hospital and treated by the central districts doctor and later taken to royal adelaide he is in a stable condition, 12 or so stictches fractured skull and a little bleeding on the brain but is in a stable condition.......makes me feel sick, the poor kid, so much effort put in and then this happens...
 
That's ****ing terrible.

I have him right in my calculations for a third or fourth round pick but this would have to put some doubt over his drafting. But that's neither here nor there because hopefully he gets well soon.

You're right. The most important thing at this stage is Matt's health and well being.

Hopefully he can recover fully from the horrendous injuries he received as a result of this cowardly assault from some peanut brain who lacks respect for people and society.

Presuming Matt does fully recover in the fullness of time, then the implications footy wise come into play.

This disgraceful assault will almost certainly cost him being drafted this year, and potentially for all time.

I hope they catch the #@#$#@ who did this and he receives no mercy in and out of jail.
