Yeah good call, 'cos here at Tigerland we can afford to slag off coaches who have made the finals recently.
In terms of coaching experience he's streets ahead of Hird with SANFL, VFL senior experience
Interesting 'cos Mick Malthouse and Rocket Eade are s%#thouse media performers. As petulant, arrogant, rude and immature as you'll find.
Don't feel sorry for him. He's all cashed up, good luck to him. He's welcome to help our young midfielders anytime he likes.
You may want to have a look at his results in the VFL/SANFL.
They were horrible

Let's try and keep this thread more about Knighter, and less about anyone's dislike for Essendon (as difficult as that may be). if you can tie the two in together...then fine.

Can not do mate.:D

As much as I love Hird (was one of the best players I have ever seen) I honestly believe the members and supporters run that football club.

It certainly seems that way, i don't think the mere presence of Hirdy the Messiah will fix everything like the supporters seem to think it will, they never gave Knights a real shot.

That being said Knights' assesment of the essendon list contributed heavily to his own sacking in the end

I am just enjoying the embarrasing display that essendon is making of itself after copping years of abuse and snide remarks about richmond's admin by bomber supporters.

Dons, prepare to be underwhelmed

no respect for essendon for there decision with knights.

on another note, would be nice to see him involved with richmond again.

**** Knighter and **** the supporters who want him back.

Honestly, have never had the appreciation for him as much as everyone else, but hey. He always plays the "hard done by" tag.

I dont want ex Richmond players involved in our coaching (Campbell bad enough). He was a shit coach and got sacked, deal with it. I cant believe Essendon plucked him from the Bendigo Bummers anyway, he must have thought all his Xmas' had come at once.

His strategies were shit. His evaluation of what is a good list is shit. His development of players was shit. And l still cant forget that bitch slap he gave Libba.

Funny, but embarrassing.

NO NO NO ****ing NO. I dont want him near Richmond.

Have you completely forgotten when Knighter gave his heart and soul whilst playing for the RFC? I definately rate him a better player then Campbell. Find the time to watch his footage to confirm his talent, loyalty and committment to the RFC. In saying that, I believe he could successfully own an assistant's position at AFL level!

Not questioning his loyalty. Not questioning the fact he was talented. I do question his attitude, which at times he overrated himself - as do a lot of other people on here.

He was a shining light in what was some god awful years. It says more about the club than the individual.

Its still a big ****ing NO!

;)

We are all entitled to opinions and mine is Knights' competency to hold an assistant's roll at, QUOTE AFL Level UNQUOTE!..... If, at any stage he is considered for an assistant's position at Punt Road, so be it, then spit the dummy Wal!

Knights was always my favourite player growing up. Doesn't make him a good coach though. I hate it when people think that someone will be a great coach because they were a great player. Choose the people who are right for the job.

I actually agree with you guys. Essendon Supporters treated Knights very poorly from the start and never really received the full support IMO. I don't think James Hird back stabbed him, it was more the Board being sick of complaints from Members, daily articles about the club at war with each other ect.

Knighter has and always will have the honour of being part of a RFC team of the century. Any tiger with a shred of decency would have utmost respect for great man. id like to eb the first to suggest his young fella ditches the red and black in favour of a Y&B jumper and when we next WIN the cup knighter will be as much a part of it as any. As far as a job at punt Rd , he has no more claims for one than John Rombotis would...time to move on

Whats to bet that he already has. Should and when Knighter wishes to return to Punt Road we should welcome him with open arms. Wouldn't it be great if next season we are the team that knocks Essendon out of finals contention, with Knighter helping us with the inside info on them. How sweet would that revenge be for him ?

:thumbsu:Francis Bourke, anyone?
Easily my favourite Tiger of all-time, but everything I have read about his time at the helm, despite lifting us to a grand final in 82, says he was a poor coach and poor manager of personnel. Made the call that Bryan Wood was gone (he ended up playing in a premiership at Essendon), oversaw the departures of Cloke, Raines and Taylor and unnecessarily treated Flea Weightman poorly!
He simply wasn't a good coach, but a champion player.

To answer the question, I don't feel sorry for Knights. Had a poor SANFL/VFL record, overrated his list - though probably did well to get them to finals - and it's the nature of coaching. Success is the criteria for an extended career. He walks away well compensated, with pride hurt. He'll get over it!!

As for Hird, I see Francis Bourke written all over him. Zero tolerance for those who were unable to be like themselves - ferocious, courageous, skilled and champions.
