Can't believe this thread is still going.

Pav was asked to play on. The 'selfish' thing to do was to actually retire after last year's prelim, and not a single AFL supporter would criticise him for doing so. He bleeds purple through and through and has unselfishly carried on (probably for peanuts) for the sake of the club.

I wish my club had a Pav.

You are not doing it right, this is a Pav bashing thread.

How dare you present a reasoned response as to why he is playing on.

Need's more "overrated cos he never won a premiership" or try the answer to every thing Freo related "blame Ross"

Another Eagles poster before mentioned how it seems Eagles supporting fans are defending Pav as well in this thread, and in general.

Maybe the eastern states bias does exist and they are clueless about why Pav is continuing in 2016, or even who Pav is in general. Give him a contract for 2017 too if Apeness is still plagued by injury.

Typical Freo clutching at straws....

Where is the
1 x captain of losing Grand final side?
How is stating the facts of the man's career 'clutching at straws'? Those stats were listed in response to someone saying he was over rated. So if we do it your way:

344 games
680 goals
6 x All Australian
6 x Fremantle B&F
8 x Fremantle leading goal kicker
2 x Coleman medal runner up
1 x Losing GF Captain

Wow - you are right! What a spud! Totally crap career! What have I (and the majority of the football watching public) been thinking all these years?

Eagles fans are some of the best to defend Pav. Seen him at his best twice a year for the past 17 years.

Just like how Freo saw Eagles players like Glass that the eastern states fans mightn't have seen as much

I don't think the leadership reasoning is quite accurate, personally between Fyfe, Mundy, Sandilands, Walters, Johnson, we were quite strong for on-field leadership (can't really comment off-field). Can't really be helped that 4 of those 5 haven't been able to get on the park though.

I think a lot of players have stepped it up massively effort wise, we're just so badly outclassed all over the field currently.

Are you serious? 4 of our 6 leadership group members are on the sideline and you think Pav should also retire. He's the best leader we have onfield currently bar Walters and Neale. You know nothing about our club which is amazing considering you spend every second of every day talking about us.

good clubs with strong leadership bat deeper than that when it comes to leadership, here are the players ross had when he left at the saints that showed leadership (there's probably 1 or 2 i'm missing):
hayes
roo
fisher
montagna
dempster
blake
dal santo
schneider
geary
goddard
gwilt
jones
ray
mcevoy
kozi
gilbert

even then we identified the need to get in good young leaders, so we drafted players in like newnes, dunstan, mccartin, goddard, longer and developed the leadership of someone like armitage

Not to mention horrible support in the forward line. Rooey has Membrey, A number 1 draft pick in McCartin and an absolute gun in Bruce. Pav has Taberner and Mayne. Pav plays in the saints side on the weekend and he kicks 4.

i dont think this is the case at all. he's lost the ability to get separation between himself and his defender as he's gotten slower and less agile. he has not been able to adapt his game to make up for this

it reminds me of G train in 2008 and Kozi in 2011. the end comes quick.

Pav's a champion of his club and the game. Could've retired last year. Club asked him to go around again. He did. Yes he's done but this doesn't change the player he was, it doesn't take away from what he's achieved, and it doesn't lessen his status at the club or in the game. This idea that there's some pissing contest between him and Roo is moronic and just part of the Australian sporting culture that you shouldn't celebrate something good without abusing/talking down something else. It's stupid. There is no contest. They're both champions.

If he wants to play the year out, he can. If he wants to pull the pin this week at Subi, he'll get a guard of honour. He's earned the right to make that call, and there's (to my knowledge) no potential superstar he's holding back. Plus, with all the senior injuries at Freo, his leadership is probably sorely needed.

All hail the Super Pav.

Hail Pav, Hail the Great Man, Hail!

The bloke should pretty much just retire at the bye. Announce it now, get a bit of a farewell tour of the country and go out on a high of some sort. Been an absolute champion of the game, an amazingly good player, but really he is just going at the moment and watching him struggle is pretty sad.

Pav, just finish it up now. You've earnt the right to go out when you choose

Each to his own I guess, but I think you're being generous with the term "leadership" here.

He'll retire after our round 23 game against the dogs at Domain. It's going to be huge, can't wait to clap him off the ground for the last time with a massive win (maybe our only win).

o_O

yeh just like you were right about how great freo's list management and recruitment was and how they wouldnt fall off the edge like the saints. just like how freo didnt need to manage their senior players last year and find more avenues to goal because they were good enough to go the whole way

which one has hurt freo more, me being wrong on weller or you with your head in the sand on every issue your club has faced...

Thread is about a champion called Pav, try to stay focused throughout the haze of hate

Geez, Defacto you are stretching the point a bit here. You are capable of a rational footy discussion, but this is verging on the ridiculous.

Schneider, Jones, Kozi (didn't want to be on the footy field some days ), Ray etc.

The point that was being made, is that 4 of Freos senior leaders are out, 1 is left ..................... yep the spiritual leader.

Had a good laugh at Gwilt. May as well name every player on the list

It's a wa love in. That rivalry doesn't deserve the name.

I like pav, everyone does.
