Me, I'm a Pav knocker and probably unfairly .

I don't remember much of his beginnings , never really took much notice, but he is raved about and must have been something special for a footballer in his younger years. But I have seen him over 3 to 5 years and reckon he's over rated, maybe he is not over rated maybe he has simply gone a bridge too far, too old in his particular circumstance and just doesn't make the grade now. Except to take an opponent away from someone else in his team.
Certainly unfairly. The bloke is/was a deadset superstar. There's a reason Eagles fans aren't laying in the boots, and some are coming to his defence.

He threw a tanty because he was dropped, pretty sure that relates to game time.
"He debuted against St Kilda in round 23 2013, but his 2014 season was marred by off-field problems. He was twice fined undisclosed amounts for failing to meet club requirements.

The first incident occurred in January during the pre-season with a second in April. Simpson played his second AFL match against Essendon in round four and was selected as the travelling emergency the following week but failed to board the flight to Sydney.

The club stood him down from selection before he returned to play for Peel Thunder in the WAFL. But in June he was granted a leave of absence from the club to undertake a personal development program, which was overseen by Fremantle but involved the AFL Players' Association, Simpson's management and outside counsellors."

He played a great game as the sub in round 4 and was then dropped the next week for an injured and out of form player, then threw a tanty and refused to turn up when he was the travelling emergency. Hard to say selection had nothing to do with it.

I said it was "the least of his issues". That is not a reasonable action to take to being dropped regardless of circumstance.

Well, I would say that if his other issues were that serious then he wouldn't have been selected to play or as the emergency to begin with. Whatever the other issues were, his being dropped certainly seemed to exasperate them.

mark neeld was brilliant at culling lists and dumping oldies too
I'm not sure you know what's going on here, you seem confused. First Mark Neeld has nothing to do with this, second I haven't spoken about culling a list or any player. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at?

You liked a post having a go at Harvey trying to reach a games total but want your player to continue so he can reach a games total. Just a bit contradicting.

Didn't impose himself at all and also missed at critical times. Your biased.
Playing poorly and still kicking a third of your sides goals says a bit about the man doesn't it? I am biased but you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to this subject, you said all our young players leave, enlighten me as to who of note has left?

So I agree , Pav, retire gracefully with some dignity, because its a bad look man. You appear to be better than that.
Definitely unfairly IMHO

344 Games
680 Goals
6 x All Australian (as both a forward and defender)
6 x Fremantle Best and Fairest
8 x Fremantle Leading Goal Kicker
2 x Coleman Medalist Runner up.

A legend of the game

Because he has no choice now. Prior to you being the disaster you are this year no-one got a game.
Connor Blakely, Ed Langdon, Lachie Weller, Alex Pearce and Brady Grey all made their debuts in 2015 - so to say that prior to this year that no one got a game is totally incorrect.

All I'm learning from this thread is that some of the Hawks supporters have let the premiership success go to their heads, they seem to be the know all on all footy subjects !!!!.

Pav's leadership in this crisis is worth his match payment.

Pav plays, Taberner improves and kicks goals.

Pav doesn't play, Tab gets best defender and struggles.

Best scenario ?.

Taberner needs to start learning to play without pav

Taberner needs to start learning to play without pav

Pav is providing team leadership, taking the best defender + imparting tricks of the forwards trade to the anklebiters.

Take Pav away, ALOT less team leadership ( all Freos "leaders" are injured, except up and coming Neale ), Tabs gets best defender + no one imparts any little tricks of forward work.

Look, Freo have a lot of cracks to repair and worries to be sorted, Pav is more than doing his job this season.

Aim your darts at Ballas, Clarke, Suban , Daniel Pearce etc ..............

Pav is the rock holding the team together, can't you see that leadership is what Freo needs at the moment !!!.

Wouldn't the same apply to every young player needing to learn to play without all players close to retirement? No point retiring a player, especially a champion of the game, before he wants to just because it will have to happen eventually.
Taberner is improving slowly this year, I'd say a large part of that is because Pav is in the team. I doubt he'd be improving quicker if Pav was dropped.

THEY are two champions of the modern era finishing their esteemed careers in completely different styles.

When St Kilda and Fremantle have faced each other over recent years, fans have salivated over the prospect of Nick Riewoldt and Matthew Pavlich figuratively going head-to-head at opposite ends of the field.

When the two teams clashed at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Pavlich was manned up by Sam Fisher at one end. Riewoldt, however, was on a wing next to Danyle Pearce.

What transpired over the next two hours showcased two AFL superstars heading in totally different directions.

Riewoldt was at his brilliant, workmanlike best against the Dockers, booting 2.2 from 24 disposals and 11 marks to lead his side to a 34-point win. Just over 61 per cent of those possessions were won in the defensive half.

Pavlich, however, struggled, finishing with just eight disposals, one mark and a goal in a performance that further fuelled suggestions he shouldn’t have played on this season.
