I think the idea of a flag chance kept him in it this year. This is certainly his last.
There was nobody else on Freo's list the play the no 1 KPF role. Apeness and Tabener haven't kicked on as quickly as Freo would have hoped.
Freo needed him.

Father time catches up pretty quick, they need to find a solution asap.

Have a look at their list, there is no other tall forward options besides Taberner and Apeness and the latter has been injured.

Due to their bad drafting and list management he hasn't been denying anyone.

Again, who? Replace a KPF with a midfielder or a Backman ? As has been well documented on here, Freo's main failing with trading/drafting has been not snaring a key forward. As a result Pav has been the only option. Tabener has been playing and may or may not become a viable option. The only other possibility is Apeness who spent the entire 2015 season out through injury. If he continues to do well in the WAFL expect to see him lining up after the bye.... Watch this space.

Stating that by continuing to play Pav is keeping a kid out is ignorant twaddle.

There's no better way to gain experience and knowledge than to learn "on the job". Any player could replace the guy and do just as good of a job if not better than someone that is WELL AND TRULY past his best :).

Which bit of this don't you get champ? Apart from Tavener and Apeness there is no one on this list with the attributes needed for a key forward. Tavener is playing and Apeness is a few games back from serious injury. THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS.

I'll agree with you on one thing, Pav is past his best but a past his best Pav is still the best (only) thing we have.

Can you actually read his posts please?

You seem to have a difficult time grasping a simple concept - there is literally no one Pavlich is keeping out. They put eggs into grabbing a developed KF and then McCarthy and missed out (well, until end of this season) - there's no one there.

HELLO McFly, I am saying it doesn't matter about being a KPF, you can still blood a kid (regardless of his height!) and give him much needed AFL experience
It's not rocket science.

Whilst he is an absolute Fremantle champion, he is remembered by a lot of Victorians for not showing up on grand final day in 2013. Sad, and yes a reality, but he made minimal impact when the club needed him to launch. Other than that an amazing career.
Kicked 3 of our 8 goals on Grand Final day. Quit making up shit to suit your opinion.

Which we've done all year genius. Pavs replacement has played about 3 games of footy in the last 9 months. Restricted Pre Season and can't run out a full WAFL game yet. He Isn't ready.

Well la-de-da champ :)

Pick ANY currently unused uninjured player on Fremantle's list and put him in fremantles 22 for the day. There you can get valuable game time into someone, anyone other than an over the hill dinosaur :).

And people thought Freo was tanking before, then they go and drop they greatest ever player and one of two fit key forwards for some rookie midfielder or defender. Bold plan.

The problem with that is that you then lack structure. This ends up being counter productive as your midfield and forwards have to operate differently to generate scoring attempts. So whilst a player might spend time on the field, he's not learning a sustainable game plan and likely learning some bad habits.

I don't understand how people haven't predicted this level of performance (which is still OK). He's been declining for a number of years and when you consider how poor Freo are and the lack of supply, let alone quality supply, you could reasonably suggest he's done quite well to stem the tide.

2016 Disposals: 12.0, Marks: 3.7, Scoring Shots: 2.9
2015 Disposals: 14.6, Marks: 4.5, Scoring Shots: 3.1
2014 Disposals: 14.9, Marks: 5.6, Scoring Shots: 3.3
2013 Disposals: 14.2, Marks: 5.8, Scoring Shots: 3.7
2012 Disposals: 17.4, Marks: 6.3, Scoring Shots: 4.4

Thing is he's not that fit and can also be a big liability...............

Agree he's not the player he once was. While he had a fairly poor game over on the weekend he still kicked a goal and got a heap of tackles.
The other games he's played this year he hasn't been that bad, goal kicking aside.
What the team really needs is to learn to kick to a key forward. Having an experienced one in the side, even though past his best, is good for this.

So sad to see the great Pav playing as he is at the moment. He is a shadow of the giant that crashed packs and took such strong marks and kicked so many great goals. Please Pav- retire gracefully and be remembered for being the champion that you are.

Me, I'm a Pav knocker and probably unfairly .

I don't remember much of his beginnings , never really took much notice, but he is raved about and must have been something special for a footballer in his younger years. But I have seen him over 3 to 5 years and reckon he's over rated, maybe he is not over rated maybe he has simply gone a bridge too far, too old in his particular circumstance and just doesn't make the grade now. Except to take an opponent away from someone else in his team.

So I agree , Pav, retire gracefully with some dignity, because its a bad look man. You appear to be better than that.

Lol is this a joke, Brent Harvey is a champion of the game, just because you have some personal problem with him you think he can't chase a games record (even though he isn't) while still playing fantastic footy at 38 and a big part of helping his team back into the finals this year, But Pav is allowed to even though he's well past it? Rose-Coloured glasses.
mark neeld was brilliant at culling lists and dumping oldies too

The way our mids have been delivering the ball forward would make Buddy look cooked right now.
Send him up the ground, that is what happened when buddy didn't get fed, but Pav can't do it, its a total different story for Pav and his build, now , he isn't the panther like player, that Buddy is, unfortunately he has over recent times missed important goals and dropped marks. Time !

Who? We have a great retention rate, Michie and Roberton are the only 2 I can think of in Lyons time at the club.

Simpson basically left because he wasn't getting a game too. But then he had many other issues.
