Let’s not single out Richo before the bag of useless that is Ling and Carey. Richo is at least occasionally interesting to listen to.

We surely we have the dumbest, laziest level of commentary and analysis of any professional sport in the world.

Spot on. Lazy I agree with. These guys are on half a million to a million a year to commentate and call football professionally and nearly all of them admit to not watching much footy. Except the games they are paid to commentate. Useless.

The actual commentators like Hudson and mcavaney watch all the matches. They are professional commentators.

I remember 1 day dermie had a crack at Hudson for not ever playing AFL and said something along the lines of "with all respect Hudson you have no right to comment on that since you didn't play AFL".

Hudson would have been well within his rights to have replied with something like "with all due respect you have no right to be commentating as you never got the media degrees or any form of professional media accreditation. Get out of my box".

Just because you played doesn't mean you can commentate as fans realise but the AFL and TV outlets don't.

Darcy, awful. Ling, awful. Lynch, awful. If I have to hear lynch try and say ability and instead say abiwity 1 more time, I swear to God.

Less players commentating, more professional commentators. Simples.

doesn't offer any special insight or draw on his experiences or expertise as a former great of the game. just sticks to basic statements and comments on things we already know. then rewords the same point seconds later, essentially repeating himself. its actually pathetic. guys like duck and riewoldt provide much better insight.

'he has been a great recruit for essendon and has started the season well'

This pretty much describes any special comments ex players. Carey was an exception early on.

It's amazing how little insight 200+ games players provide to the public.

The level of commentary and special comments is actually appalling

Listening to Dermie, Eddie, Dwayne and Spud Frawley is enough to press the mute button. Any of those blokes on the team means I do, press mute.
