Not heard alot of people talk up this kid from the Bendigo Pioneers? Inside midfielder with loads of speed and just tackles like mad.

Found this youtube video if anyone doesn't know him;

Don't know much about him but watching that video, he looks like a gun. That's what you expect from a first round selection.

I see the Pioneers quite regularly - in fact, thanks for the YouTube pics. It is the first time I've seen myself sitting at Golden Square Oval watching the footy.
However, are you seriously thinking of him as a top draft choice?

Matt Smith: 180 cm tall and 70kg (this dats is a little old) from Calivil United. Birthday: 11/01/91

He's a decent kid and can reasonably expect to get drafted, but I wouldn't suggest a possible first rounder. His kicking is good and he has some pace. I like the way he runs guys down from behind.
Talking to a few boys who know him, he is hoping to be picked up. A couple of Victorian clubs have spoken to him, but he hasn't any promises yet.

Shane Page and Kallen Geary also also hoping to get selected and must have some chance. But the only Pioneer to be a certain pickup is Dustin Martin.

not a chance averages aroun 16 touches a game to me and alot of recruiters wont cut it, best bet is to go play vfl against men. and better the 16touches a game and may have a chance to get drafted but on his stats it wont cut it at afl level

saw his video up on the brisbane board a few months ago and can certainly tackle, not sure whether he gets enough of it, but would certainly consider.

Top draft choice would be way to high considering he doesnt get alot of the ball, but he is a real worker. I was just pretty confused no-ones bought up the kid as he's got some real speed and hardness. Just needs a bit of development, and if he starts to get some touches, then I think we have a gun in this kid.
Dont consider him to be picked in the first 3 rounds, maybe if lucky late 3rd round. I'm thinking 4th or 5th round, hopefully for the kid.

the kids havin a lend if he thinks hes going to get drafted the question is how many more threads can you put up a bout yourself? i watched some pioneers games in melbourne he is a good run down tackler but turns the ball over enormous amounts as it sais on the stats sheets.you cant turn the football over in modern times there are plenty more kids in the taccup that are genuine footballers. looking at the pioneers the draft chances would be martin, page, geary, ellis, keeble, fenton this is going on what i have seen and stats and maybe dennis as a smokey?

Geary could get somewhere. He can run all day and has neat skills.

Page has been getting some recruiters visiting him. How serious they are is another question. Some of my students know him well: he hasn't been willing to drop names to his mates, but 3 clubs have been to his door.

Ellis has a realistic show, but I would expect him more of a rookie than to go in the ND. However, he has also had recruiters visiting him.

As for Smith, I don't think his disposal is THAT bad, but it isn't a strength. His running is more a strength. I gather he has also had some visitations recently, enough to make me think he could go late.

It does appear to me that the recruiting people of the various clubs have been more active up here this year. A couple of years ago about the only one who even got a phone call was Andrew Collins (I used to teach him Maths: he would give me a few tidbits) and most of those calls were nibbles. But I am not saying that all these lads wil be picked up.
The ONLY certainty is Dustin Martin.
However, with the drafts upcoming being restricted, I wouldn't be suprised if some clubs took a few risks.
