Wades 48 not out at the lunch break :thumbsu:

He's batting really patiently today which is a bit surprising considering he likes to play his shots and get on with it. Just shows he can adapt to different situations :-)

Althogh I think I'll be disappointed later today when Haddin is retained.

Paine has made 1 FC ton from 84 innings at an average of 31.62 and 5 OD tons from
79 innings at 34.67

Wade has made 4 FC tons from 72 innings at 39.32 and 4 OD tons from 30 innings at 43.59

I can't believe Paine is still being talked as the automatic replacement for Haddin once fully fit.

Im sick of that stat in isolation. It just proves people can read cricinfo and not watch domestic cricket at all and decide they know all about it..

Tim Paine played on a pitch a couple where for a couple of seasons hardly a score over 200 was made for any team and came up with a several 50s that were match winners.

Wade's a better batsman, I've agreed but if people want to talk fc statistics they should be able to interpret them too not just prattle them off.

As for Phone. I can agree Hartley is the cleanest behind the stumps. Neville does a job but I think Paine has him for been consistent behind the stumps for long periods.

Doesn't wade already jointly hold the record in FC cricket for the most takes by a keeper in a season with hartley? doesn't he also have one of the highest average takes by a keeper in FC cricket?

As I mentioned before this is due to victoria having a very good bowling line up and have done for a number of seasons.

In truth our weakness is our batting has traditionally been a top 4 and then chaff after that.

Rogers, McDonald, white, Hussey have been the only consistency in our batting since the retirement of hodge.

yeah keeping statistics are pretty hard to follow. i mean only 3 keepers with more than 100 dismissals are averaging above 2.0 an innings - Gilchrist, K. Akmal and G. Jones....you can't really take much stock in stuff like that sadly. it's highly dependent on the bowling attack. like the above bye thing mentioned... Hilf isn't my favourite guy but I'd rather keep to him than MJ....

There was a thread on this issue about 2 seasons ago pointing out Wades leading catching record. It than went into show he was leading the dropped catch count (by times reported on the cricket.com.au commentary)and byes count for the season as well....

so again, to use one stat in isolation you need to interpret it better.

Unfortunately Wade needs Haddin to get injured before Paine returns. Although with Paines injury history, maybe he is better off with Paine replace Haddin asap ;)

Unless the new selectors throw out the old selectors waiting lists and start fresh, but Paine is still the golden one. Hell you even get talk of him being the next VC of the side still...

It's quite extraordinary to see a keeper have his leadership credentials pushed so much. i mean it's assumed as a keeper you'll have some credentials. I'm sure Wade has them too. For Paine to have pretty much been appointed future test vice captain - as he was. I've got no doubt about it. The T20I thing after the Ashes. The aus a tour - is really weird. I know there's a bit of a void there. North of course was meant to be vice captain instead of Watson and you can hardly give the VC to Haddin or Hussey...But really, it's a bit beyond me. The only comparison I can think is johan botha. I mean you just don't make captaincy plans for keepers and spinners. They don't have the luxury batsmen do of only having to be good enough for one of six spots.

On the whole Haddin thing. I've said it before, but if dropping Haddin means we have to put up with some bullshit "oh well we've made a huge change with the wicket keeper so we're just gonna keep the rest of the team stable for now" then we may as well keep Haddin for the very short term. The seam attack and the top 6 has to be reconstructed asap. Haddin v Wade v Paine is a bit like Beer v Lyon, it'd be great to get it right, but we have much much more important shit to sort out right now. I mean Haddin came in with the score above 200 one time in the Ashes....I rate Wade as a batsman a lot but even he's gonna struggle if the top order keeps on folding like that.

Of course I see no reason why we can't just wipe everything, put Clarke and Watson at 5 and 6 and go from there in which case later hads.

Off-topic, but on the highlighted bit - I've long thought the vice-captain should be the bloke you want to stand in if the captain stubbs his toe on the morning of the match. And that will not necessarily be the bloke you want as the next full-time captain.

On topic - I have been a Paine fan for a while but Wade impresses me more and more. It's a tough one but the positive is that we have two solid contenders, both of whom would do an excellent job for Australia if they got the call.

Yeah and that's why Haddin got the VC for the last test. And Gilly under Waugh. right now giving someone the vc is probably doing more harm than good because outside of clarke and watson no-one should have a secure spot, and by giving someone the vc....I probably would have just kept Haddin as VC or moved across to hussey, but i can see why they did what they did with watson. not so happy with north and paine

Guess they are waiting for Paine to come back from his injury because I would've thought putting Wade in against NZ was the perfect time.

What would make me even more sick is if Paine comes in for Haddin as soon as he makes a decent score when he comes back or Haddin is choosen in the one dayers over Wade.

Can't remember the last time Haddin did anything in a one day game.

I couldn't disagree any more.

Wade v Paine is like Beer v Lyon but Haddin v (Wade/Paine) is like Bradman vs playing with 10 men.

It shouldn't even have to be thought about. There is not a single valid reason to have Haddin in over either Wade or Paine.

They are both better batsmen, both better keepers and both younger.
