cheers for that.
Surely we can get it right 50% of the time and have at least 1 of these guys turn out to be a gun.

You only have to look back through the AA lists to see that KPPs take time and the Midfielders/Flankers rise quicker. .. Murphy took less time then Kennedy from the 2005 AA team. .. Jack Darling has been in the system a year longer than Watson and is more a Third Tall. .. Nathan Brown has only been recognised since the Pies premiership (~4 years after his AA selection). .. Watson is only entering his 2nd year since AA selection. ..

Absolutely agree 100% I was just saying in the event in 5 years time watson hasnt developed, I would hope that mcarthy has or vice versa. Even better that they will both be AA Again. :)

like tom hawkins Watson has a big 'mature' body so people get fooled into thinking he is ready for AFL gorillas.....if he was a spaghetti arms we would be giving him alot more time to develop. Instead we dig into him expecting him to hold down a Key back position straight away.

He's a massive kick which is great but in defence the ball is mostly kicked no longer than 45 - 50 meters so really this skill will be wasted there where as in the forward half he would have a scoring range up to 60m from goal which would make it a nightmare to stop him if he was on and be a great way to break up floods/zones and to use true CHF because he would be able to kick goals from true CHF. He could go on long 45-50m leeds, mark it 50-55 out and put it through, something we don't have and something we need.

Not sure I can agree with you here. Shannon Hurns kicking opens the game up for WC. With the forward press being employed at the moment, being able to kick 60m increases the area to be defended. While his defending at VFL level needs improving, when he gets the ball he seems to always seems to hit his target, often with long raking passes.

Kicking long to a contest is back in vogue and the longer you kick it the better.

The first kick out of defence needs to be precise. A 50-60m bomb to the flank or down the centre can rebound back in & catch the defence out of position. Only when kicking from 30m+ from the opposition's goal is it worth kicking long to a contest.

usually the first long bomb from defence is occasionally from full back or to the wing. It is the last resort option when there is no space to run and carry it or no targets to hit up and often a sign that the team is not switching and out running their opponants overly well. It might be a way to beat the press but first it needs to be moved quickly at least 30m before an excessively long kick beats the press. A booming long kick is more dangerous leading up from goal, like Cloke is.

Just got the team poster from the HS. Oh my gosh the boy has a massive head! it would easily be bigger than bryan 'boof head' tailors 62cm
