If he is right, don't waste time in the 2's. Both Max and St Kilda will be better just for him being on the field.

0 marks, 0 touches doesn't matter. For Max himself, he is back finally and begins to gain confidence in his body.
For the club, He takes their best 1/2 defenders when we go forward, even at 50%TOG. That dump kick that gets marked, as we have Owens contesting against some one twice his size/ 2 defenders? That becomes a contest.
Not saying it will just instantly fix us but everyone will be a winner.

He hasn’t played football for 18 months and has clearly not managed his fitness for just as long. Why throw him in the deep end immediately?

Why drop a player just to bring in a guy who hasn’t been near it for almost 2 years?

Especially now we have a VFL team. Let’s see if he can handle the rigor of a football match before we risk making him in the AFL. Last thing we need is an injury in the opening minute, and be down a player for the whole game

If Lyon is telling the truth and King is actually going to play a game footy in round 7, he has the option of the easiest AFL game at Marvel possible (West Coast) or the easiest VFL game at Moorabbin (Gold Coast - the only team below us).

I don't mind the idea of having him play VFL so we can be extra conservative with his TOG and bring him off if there is any soreness at all. No pressure to perform either - just go through the motions and remember what it's like to be involved in a game of footy.

If he gets through that, then we could play him against Carlton in the next game.

It was good enough for round 0 to have him on 40-50% TOG. The revised interchange allows for it?

It will ensure a Marvel return for him.

I don't believe there is any benefit for him being in the 2's, especially when the return window is Carlton/West Coast. Both sides lacking in defence? Better than returning vs gold coast up there?

I honestly think mentally it will also just be better for him and the team.
If his body fails due to not playing, it will fail at either level.

who in our forward line demands holding him out?

Eagles as good as any team to come back to

Blues and Suns after that
or the VFL is vs Coburg and Suns after that

Just not sure if you'd want to risk him in the VFL

Hope is a dangerous thing
Just a reminder of what he can do, 33 pages of doom and gloom, it's worthwhile to be reminded of what he is and can be to the team

I'm not expecting much from him on return. Its going to take him some time to get used to playing again and further time to adjust, get confidence again etc.

He's missed a lot of development both game's and training so its almost like a second debut in a way. If he can start playing some good footy by the end of the year and hit next year at 100% I'll be happy.

All our fingers and toes are crossed, and prayers have been said to every deity. We just want him back and firing!

The question is does he make us a better team ?

Considering he is legitimately the only genuine KPF we have yes he makes us significantly better even on modified minutes would rather roll the dice on King and Let TDK ruck one out if im being honest

As the old story goes, so many experts so little knowledge

100%.

He went down to the twos once and that ended in disaster. He also needs a special training regime to get his body ready and away from accidents.

The only place he should be getting injured is on the football field playing an actual game....

Its been that long since we have seen him play, its easy to forget how good he can be. If he can come back and find any sort of form he will help us immeasurably. Then to have all players available for a decent block, we may be able to turn our fortunes around.

I would still like to ease him back via the VFL, but we all know there will be pressure on the club to play him straight away.

Mitch Lewis said on the weekend that it took him ages to get back to his best.

Imagine the melts if he injures himself in VFL, or if he notices that a maggot is on an opposition player's guernsey and he yells, "Maggot!" at the top of his lungs.
We dont need another maggot Gate!

Considering he will play deep forward and hardly leave the 50, I don't see the issue of coming straight in.

Would be happy to leave it up to Max if he felt like he needed a VFL game for his confidence and touch
