, great player, but I don’t remember his game outside of D50. Max has lockdown defender attacking poise, balance and smarts. I wonder if he ends up like Mundy, kills it in D then shifts into that 190cm+ elite leg mid.

Ben Hart could basically do everything.

Great one on one, defend big and smalls, break the lines and run, deliver the ball perfectly on both feet and drift forward and kick goals. He's was quick, athletic, clean and scrapped hard for the ball.

If Max ends up even close to Ben, I'd be over the moon.

Max is the closest that I’ve seen to Ben Hart and is super exciting to watch at every contest! So glad that someone pointed out to the Crows that he was F-S eligible.

I emailed the club on 20 July 2021 and asked if Michelanney was on the radar as a f/s. I got an auto reply and no response.

People forget just how good Ben Hart was. He won AA in his first two years of AFL as a 18 and 19 year old.
Ben is a little more agile than Max is. Ben was very flexible and nimble.

I don’t think comparisons here are meant to degrade Hart’s accomplishments. Rather, we’re talking about the similar traits and the potential ceiling Max is showing in just 5 games. And that is seeing Hart as the pinnacle of a great all-round defender.

Similarities are quite uncanny:

• both look scrawny
• both look like they belong from day 1
• both rarely lose in contests
• both have poise, agility, core strength, good kicks
• both don’t have superstar looks, but fans love them cos….they bloody get the job done!

Honestly, if Max just keeps doing what he does, that’s all anyone can ask of a defender. What records he achieves is merely a bonus.

so only got around to watching the full replay last night, and i'd seen people mention his hit up of Tex before I'd seen the actual footage of it - goddamn I wasn't expecting anything so attacking and sublime from him and really just elevated himself to another echelon of player

already he was a super reliable and smart defender but if he can start producing inside 50s like that regularly, wow!

He just needs to keep a level head as the wider media recognise how good he is...and when an inevitible form dip happens at some point we need to take it easy on him as he has set the bar so high so early

I saw an article, dunno where, but the writer was quick to point out that Max is roaring up behind the 2 early favourites this year being Ashcroft and Sheezel. It seems people across the border are starting to notice how good this kid is going
