Just thinking out loud, could Max slot into Milera's possie as an attacking HB, he has the disposal skills, the footy iq, reads the play well. Max could play a Nick Daicos type role. Parnell/Hamill/McPherson then goes back as the lock down small defender

I think the sky is the limit for Max - but right now I am happy for him to continue as he is , build his fitness more and be comfortable in the side

(all of which he already looks to be)

Basically I dont think there is this need to push him hard now. Let him settle - he has 12-15 years to find his spot

Ben hart..... you have a guy who can lock down the most dangerous small AND hurt them the other way you've already got your unicorn. Keep doing that, and build around it.

I don't think that kind of Nick Daicos role is what you want out of Max. After all, his shutdown game is the asset to build around, should he stay in defense and you lose that with that switch (after all, a half back isn't there to stop a forward
L).

That said, having Max could mean we look at a Milera, Smith, Cook or Redman (if the cards fall right) and treat them like a poor mans Daicos. Where we just play them as a purely offensive player at half back, instead of trying to get some intercepting power out of them.

So prior to the weekend since Geelong got their mojo back, Close had no fewer than 15 disposals and had kicked 2,4,2,1 goals.

Max held him to 11 disposals and 0.0.

Considering he doesn’t benefit from a defensive flooding game plan, he’s basically had to beat the best small forwards in the game with good old fashioned defending.

He has to be in consideration for AA, I can’t think of another defender who has his record against the small forwards. Can’t wait to see him against Charlie Cameron. If he does the job on him he has to be close to a lock.

Close was definitely in very good form leading into the game against us, especially more so as they had lost Stengle.

Even if Max does enough to be an AA lock, might not be bad if they ignore him ... at least until we've secured Jack under F-S if Jack is potentially just as good - Max said Jack is tracking well.

Reducing any attention to his F-S status might be best for now. I can imagine if the noise around Max is real loud, the AFL might be forced to have another look and say "It's too late to do anything about Max but upon closer examination, we have determined Jack is not eligible as a F-S for AFC."

Zero chance of happening.

Also, you're wanting to take the spotlight off Jack yet you post this, you know Rooch reads this!

He's the best player from his draft year, so definitely.

Maxy the best of the Ceduna Area School kids last night. So calm and makes the right decisions.
Just out of interest, how many Ceduna Area School kids have played AFL?
  • Darren Mead is the first I'm aware of, and went on to become Port's Vice Captain. Pretty hard to go past him as Ceduna's highest profile alumni. He was only the 2nd best player in his school year, but the best player Paul Bradtke (???) never made it past SANFL.
  • Scott Lycett was originally from Smokey Bay, so I assume he went to CAS. He's had a pretty decent career.
How many others are there?

I can think of a few who made it to SANFL level - Barry Irvine & Darryl Borlase coming quickly to mind.

Currently Kade Chandler is doing pretty well for Melbourne, Tyson Stengle did some time at CAS, Terry Milera for St. Kilda, Timmy Milera for AFC - that’s a few I can think of.

Why can't Max do what Will Day/Jordan Dawson have done?

Not this year but soonish.

I'd put Max ahead of that lot. He's got a long way to go though, to get ahead of Darren Mead.
