Poor kid, plays his guts out, and tries bloody hard.

Gives a few others a chance, but that is the only positive as far as I'm concerned.

:thumbsd:

Carrots is fine apparently just having some tests in hospital to be sure, I don't know what the story is with Swan yet

Terrible luck for the fella, but now it gives J.Cloke his last opportunity on a hbf. Leave him there Mick and see what he can do. If nothing, then cya.

I would expect Harry to come back in now with this injury. Bad luck to Nick who has been having a solid year:( . I think it was really encouraging that with Tarrant out and then Maxy,Carrats and Swanny going down, that we still managed to run it out and get the victory.:)

Maxwell will miss two months of football.

I don't know the full extent of Carracella's neck injury. A lot of people know I haven't been the biggest fan of Blake's in the past, but I feel so sorry for him. In fact, I hate seeing Collingwood players taken off on a stretcher.
Hope you have a speedy recovery, Blake! :thumbsu:

yeah and people called Caracella soft, put his body on the line in that contest i thought

yep I've thought he has been plenty soft and not willing to get in and under.... but that was hard play he was involved in. Only thing worse than seeing a Pie being stretchered off is that smug self satisfied look on the Lions fans faces where I was sitting in the Great Southern. Have now relegated Tigers fans to the second biggest whingers and Carlton to the second biggest up themselves fans when they are in front. In my humble opinion I think these honours now belong to The Lions. Mind you... I've never seen so many Grandmas at a match wearing team colors which leaves me to hope that eventually the Melbourne based gene pool for the Lions will either inbreed or die out!!!

That is a real shame, I really like the way he goes about it. I nearly creamed my pants when he got that hard ball get when he got smacked into by Brown and still came up with it. Saw hime hobble off, didnt look that bad good effort to jog off with a broken leg.

maxwell has a corked calf.

lol a short but sobering message... hobbling off with a broken leg becomes a corked thigh.... if that is all it is... and pending the outcome of Caracella's neck injury... what a bloody good start... and well mid season to 2006... and hey stuff the "Pies never win in June" theory... as far as I can see it's only 15 AFL Supporter bases that prescribe to that theory anyway!!

It has not been confirmed, and although it's a 'possible' broken leg, it's also 'possible' that it's a badly bruised calf. Some people just assume the worst and post anything they want without finding out for certain.

If it is broken, then hopefully it's not a bad break so that he may play again this season. If it's a badly bruised calf, then hopefully he'll be off the injury list within a month.

Woops...this is an accidental double-post, so instead I'll just say that last night was the best win of the season! One fit player on the bench since the 5 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, and a 9 point deficit during the 3rd quarter...no team should win a match of footy from that position. Unable to rotate players must be worth goals and goals to Brisbane, so it was every bit as a monumental an effort as West Coast's win yesterday.

Yeah I hear you Steph, great win, just so much better it was against the lions too, well for me anyway! Well if we make finals (as anything can happen at this stage of the season), then I think we will be hard to beat, especially if we can pull wins like that in pressure games. I think the contest was good and exactly what Collingwood was looking for, someone to be competitive and take it up to us.

Back on topic, Yeah I hope maxy pulls through, though if not then that would mean Harry back???? I think Swan should be back for the Melbourne game, but prehaps we dont have to rush him back if we have other players knockin on the door?

i had to watch the game on tv and the commentators kept going on about what a courageous act is was from brown(which it was) and not once did they mention maxwell. he put his body on the line just as hard, saw who was coming and is half the size. one of the most courageous acts of the season i reckon. Hope he is ok, i love this kid

So, one thing. We don't know the extent of Maxwell's injury yet? We will find out from the doc today on The Sunday Footy Show though.

Nick Maxwell has become one of my favourite players and rightfully so. He plays football. He is a tough defender who goes for the spoil if it is in the air, or more importantly goes for the hard-ball get if it is on the ground. His courage is shown every week several times. He played only like 15 mins and we saw 1-2 bloody good efforts. Also, the kid is good off the field. Knows whats going on and can string together a sentence very well (see White Line Fever two weeks back). Unlucky for him, and if it is a worst thought injury (broken leg), hope he has a speedy recovery, and we never know. May see you in the late season, and if not, he will be as good as ever come round 1 next year.

Harry should be promoted, and considering he is playing good footy along with Jason down at Willi, maybe a raffle. Harry to continue on, or Jason to have yet again another last crack at senior football.

As for Swan, he has the break coming up, so could be out for only the one match, so for a short of a month injuries, it is the best time to do it I guess, as you got that extra week for recovery.

Jason has had enough of a crack.

We've lost both games he's played this year.

Harry is a much more effective backman.

FWIW, the AFL website is listing it as a calf injury...

Collingwood's charmed run with injury has ended with Nick Maxwell, Blake Caracella and Dane Swan all victims of the club's spirited victory over the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday night.

Maxwell has corked his calf but requires X-rays to clear him of more significant damage, while Caracella, who was carried off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter, will also have X-rays on his neck and head.

Swan has tightness in his upper hamstring but has been given a chance of lining up against Melbourne on Queen's Birthday.

Of Caracella's injury Malthouse said he was not qualified to make a diagnosis.

"Again, I'm not going to start to speculate," Malthouse said.

"Until we find out exactly, I'm not prepared to find out."

Malthouse was also reluctant to comment on speculation that Maxwell may have fractured his leg.
