COLLINGWOOD captain Nick Maxwell's challenge against his four-match ban for engaging in rough conduct against West Coast's Patrick McGinnity was dismissed by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Collingwood produced medical evidence to show that the contact, that left McGinnity with a broken jaw, was from an accidental head clash, however the AFL did not accept the explanation and the original penalty stood.

Personally didn't agree with the initial suspension but i didn't expect us to win the appeal.

What a farce.

Even if it was a little bit high, 4 weeks is entirely over the top, it was an inch off being a perfect bump. This is simply a case of the injury dictating the severity of the penalty, which is simply ridiculous.

They ignored our Medical advice, surely we have to appeal then have to take them to court if they wont accept an appeal, this is the case where a club has to take a stand, it is just not a fair decision judged on the evidence given.

Supposedly the accepted the medical advice that it was a head ckash that caused the damage but still believed that CONTACT was made high enough to constitute a suspension.

Which makes this even more ludicrous

Good god. This is getting worse!

What's worse, is that the reason given is a lie. Without the damage we all know there never would have been a suspension.

surely it was accidental contact this is really grinding my gears
i would have hoped that a fair and reasonable tribunal would have accepted that the injury was sustained after the bump and as a result of an accidental head clash

since when is a shephard considered rough conduct? when the opposition has no awareness???

Firstly, Maxwell is not one of our best players, and we will be able to cover his position pretty easily as he serves the suspension.

Secondly, it shouldn't be a surprise that we lost the appeal. The surprise for me was that Collingwood appealed the decision and risked the extra week against the remotest of chances that the decision would be overturned.

They accepted the docs report which proved it was a head clash......

Also we are 1 win 5 losses without maxwell since he became a regular

It's a disgraceful decision. Collingwood are seemingly dealt with prejudice at the tribunual.
thats how it works mate, once you put on the black & white stripes there is automatically a cell alocated for you "in case of need"
haha!
no but you're right this is complete shite!

Really dosen't surprise me. Firstly he's a Collingwood player, and the tribunal continually tries to screw us, secondly he's the Captain of the club, so again they try to make an example of one of our players. He had no chance.

I disagree Maxwell isn't one of our better players, the role he plays will be hard to replace, and his leadership against West Coast was first class.

We will still kick Richmonds arse.

No real surprise! This sh*t's been going on forever and a day. I seem to recall the prick who gave Phil Carmen 2weeks saying "gee, if i knew it was going to be a draw, i would have only given him a week".

Does anyone know who is on the MRP and the tribunal pannel?
I know it used to be schwab on the MRP- or was that some dirty hooker i forget, and Lowe on the tribunal pannel. I'm not sure who the rest are but would like to know!
