Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

I've always thought about that. I'm not sure if it's a rule or anything but surely there could've been a few games won with tactics like this.

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

you can do it, but in the line out you know where the ball will be. which isn't always the case in our game. at the goal line, you would also be allowed to contest that situation which would carry great risk to the bloke being lifted and the bloke lifting.

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

Are you allowed to climb up the goal posts?:D:p

No, it's defined as interfering with the goal posts, and is a free kick to the opposition. It might even be reportable, but i don't know.

The idea has merit though. IIRC, it might take a few people to lift a player up; you could do it once and surprise everyone, but people *might* spot it coming the next time. It wouldn't work at centre bounces, it would have to be for ball-ups. Throw-ins would be too unpredictable with regard to where the ball would land, as would bounces. Plus, you'd need set up time. So it would have to be a ball-up where there was enough of a delay to set up - maybe for ball ups near goal where your hope is to knock it through for a rushed behind (if youre still allowed to do that).

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

It's a free against to hoist players up intentionally.

However I woudn't think there was anything wrong with a player kneeling and someone jumping on him.

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

In Union, they have jumpers in the line out, where the guy catches the ball 3-4 metres in the air... why hasn't anybody ever done it in AFL on the goal line, so spoil a kick for goal?

Well my stupid idea has always been that the players should make a ring around the player carrying the ball ( hopefully 5m from the ball carrier, havent done the maths ) and then just push on down the ground (rugby maul style). The rules say you can shepherd up to 5m off the ball and the ring of outer players can legally stop anyone coming in. Guy in the middle bounces is way down the ground and slots it through. Yes its dumb but I doubt there is anything in the rules to stop this.

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

The use of the word "******" and its variants (including reh-****) is banned on BigFooty, as per Forum Rule #1.

In this context it hasn't been used to abuse anyone, so I'm not handing out any infractions - but please refrain from using this term in future. I will be editing the thread accordingly.

Re: Maybe I'm a reh-****, but...

Nothing in the rules, but it's hard to execute, I'd just dive through the legs at the start of the ring, would break it and then a free for all.

I have spent way to much time thinking about this when I was younger. I was sure it would work!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was actually the mighty ducks flying V that game me that idea to start with.

A couple of our players should stand behind the boundary umpire just as he's about to do a throw in. One gives the other a boost and he catches the throw in, practically out of the umpires hands. Would only be able to do it once. Maybe keep it up the sleeve for when we're a handful of points down in a final.

The one thing I really can't understand is when it's the final minute or so of a game and you're down by less than a kick, how can there ever be a ball up? How could this possibly happen?

Surely the team who is behind has no interest in forcing a ball up? But they lay a tackle, everyone piles in... the umpire says that's mine fellas. And the clock winds down.

Why the hell doesn't the losing team stand off? Allow the bloke to stand up. Let him run away or kick it. I know the clock stops but a ball up is always a heavily congested situation and the result is usually another bounce straight after with precious seconds lost.

I believe it's the same as a bounce.

You may only touch the ball once it has reached its peak and is on the way down.

Watching Daniel Motlop intercept a bounce and run off was funny as everyone watched confused.

One thing I have thought of is forming a pyramid behind the man on the mark.

I believe there is a rule about having only one man on the mark. But you could set it up just behind him. This would be usefull for kicks after the siren, when the player cant play on.

We're innovators.

I bet Craigy is reading this thread, and is secretly plotting to use our new tactics in this years finals series.

So if we see a pyramid form or a union assisted lift introduced we'll know for sure!:p

If it's at 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 time it would be worth booting the ball at the pyramid to cause injury to the players.

Time constraints may be a worry, seeing a set shot could be done before the second tier has been built haha.

Everyone wears moulds these days, they don't hurt anywhere nears as much as the old inch and a halfers.

Not as silly as it sounds!

Man U tried a "trick corner" in a match against Chelsea earlier this year, and actually scored off it... although the goal was wrongly disallowed.
