2) That was his best ever performance, needs to do something again in the next few weeks

But geez it felt good, he was one of my favourite players as he crashed packs and it was great to watch it again. Go matty!

I agree with you Cats2rise, especially with point 2. If he shows consistency for the rest of the season, when selected for the seniors, there is a great chance that he wont be delisted.

I wouldnt get to excited Joolery...Macca is the reason your fave player couldnt get a place in the side. And if he keeps up his standard, you may never see yours again!

Excuse me? He's kicked only 5 in an 11 goal win against one of the worst two sides in the competition.

I've always been a big fan of McCarthy, I remember some good performances from him in 2003 (played very well in the wet against Melbourne at the G, also against West Coast in the draw late in that year at Skilled) but Playfair was favoured by the club for two-three years.

But let's not get carried away!

Remember one Kent Kingsley kicking 8.1 in his first game of the season against another poor side!

Let's not put pressure on the big fella. That's the problem with Geelong I feel, we put unrealistic expectations on players and think they are something that they are not.

Good game by McCarthy, but consistency is the key, it's all well and good doing this against Carlton, but it's against the better sides that we'll see what he's made of.

I was standing next to a few people today, not all of whom were Geelong supporters, and one was saying something to others, to the effect of "you always put huge expectations on players, more than any other club". which is spot on.

Also, made it home in time to catch some of the end of the game and heard McCarthy interviewed on Ch 10. Seems like he has a good head on his shoulders.

His screamer against West Coast in 2003 still gives me a smile. Great mark.
