His screamer against West Coast in 2003 still gives me a smile. Great mark.

I've got that! And a clip of it! But they're back at home - next time I'm there (for next weekend's game) I'd be glad to send them to you!

I agree with you Cats2rise, especially with point 2. If he shows consistency for the rest of the season, when selected for the seniors, there is a great chance that he wont be delisted.

Thought you'd be pleased.

Am I the only one who saw this thread for the joke it was intended to be?

don't worry you're not alone...
FYI: Lockett+AblettSnr+Dunstall+Lloyd+Coleman= The Great McCarthy!!:D

FWIW i was happy to see McCarthy do well but he has to stay fit and back it up in the coming weeks

If these people are serious then this opitimises the Geelong Supporter. Getting over excited by one decent game and now expecting this player to be the answer to all our prayers. Then when he doesn't deliver the goods (which could be as soon as next week), he will get bagged to death. It's like a pattern.

McCarthy had a great game against a dud side. I am happy for him because he has had a horror run with injuries and he had earned his selection this week. I hope he continues on in a similar manner for the rest of the year, time will tell.

The most important thing is that KK (hopefully) will stay in the magoos where he belongs.......

That's the bloody truth... McCarthy's mere presence in the forward line helps the team immeasurably as it means that hack kingsley is rotting in the vfl.:thumbsu:

I think this is mostly a joke - Macca is a bit of a cult figure around Geelong!

Good to hear about the five goals - he does have a certain presence even if he is a bit unco, but five goals in his first senior appearance in yonks will certainly give him some confidence, and the team at least kicks it to him. Hopefully he can maintain a bit of form.

Lets not get to carried away. McCarthy was playing on spuds today and yes he did well but like to see him back it up till seasons ends before i get carried away thats 4 sure. a good start for him but alot more needed to earn another contract for next season.

Well I was getting carried away.. we have not had much to get carried away about this year, so lets ALL GO NUTS PEOPLES!!! :thumbsu:

ps. KK still woulda managed to get none, nadda, zero, zip, ZILCH  :D

If anyone heard a drunk male moaning 'MmmmmmccccccccCcccccccccccaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyy" when he got near the ball, that was me! :D

Did you get any offers from the female Carlton supporters? ;) :D

The males didn't like me...I got a few dirty looks while I was bagging Fev when Scarlett kicked the goal on him.

But the girls....ohhhhhh.They loved me. I am going to yell out McCarthy more often! ;)

McCarthy! McCarthy! McCarthy! Oi Oi Oi!!!

I was soooooooooooooooooo HAPPY to find out that McCarthy was FINALLY getting a game in the snr team. He deserved that spot in the team so much and he has been waiting forever. He had a great game and didn't mind going for the occasional high mark. I was very impressed with his performance and look forward to seeing him in the snr's again next week (providing KK doesn't kick 10 goals in the VFL). Before I got to the game today I felt like Matty was playing for his future at Geelong. I know one game can't really be a true indictator to wether we keep him or trade him BUT this has proven to me that he can take on AFL level footy. I hope we keep him. Now the pressure is on Kingsley, Nathan and Lonergan.

Well done Matty, I'm proud of you. :)

Didnt that like totally remind you of his goal against Gehrig, a couple years ago!?!

Well it reminded me and i was happy to relay the whole story back to my Carlton mates i was at the game with! They were so glad to hear about it! :D

ps. the girls can get in line ay and take a number, correct?! :p

Nothing will beat that Scarlo goal in 2004....that was a classic. The glory run back to the goalsquare is something I won't forget!

Yeah, the girls have to take a number. I might get back to them in a couple of years, the line is that big! :D :D :D

Not even! Perhaps if you added Peter Hudson and Peter McKenna to that list they might get close to the Big Mac!

But until then......

For some strange reason this brings up images of "Brokeback Mountain"..........

The good thing about Macca's game was that his kicking was a lot better. The rest he has always done reasonably well - he has always been able to pull down a good mark is good overhead, is hard at it....but his kicking.....

I think he has always been the better of our endless supply of "fringe" tall forwards but consistency is the key, can he keep it up, lets just give him a chance and see how he goes.

The other fringe forward, who I am not sure should be there, is Mackie - has his disposal and decision making gotten a lot worse or have I just been overlooking it. What exactly is his role?? Pretty poor return from a no 7 or 8 pick.

Our performance today was just average - although it was 65 points Carlton weren't that far behind us. We are still very sloppy ATM.

Ling is better back tagging, King and Otto were a little better than serviceable and maybe that is all we will ever get from them now. Gaz Chappy, Mooney, Bartel are just getting better and better each week - stars. Woj is improving, I love seeing Scarlo kick goals on Fevola, Tenace is improving, I like Egan but he still has a way to go, Prismall looked good - nice finisher, the Corey's are just workhorses although disposal is sometimes wanting, Stokes has been handy, good to see Rooke back in the thick of it and a reasonable contribution from DJ.

Not a bad performance but a long way from a good one. We still have a lot of work to do.

Barb doesn't count.

Of course everyone realised the thread was a joke, well almost everyone. Give someone a piece of string on bigfooty...
