I don't think it's right that we haven't taken anyone from Swan Districts yet, but there's still time.

Sensational result thus far. Looks like we've finally decided we have enough mids for the time being.

So happy with the draft picks.

Matty Watson & McCarthy to shore up or KPD for the next 10 years.

And even happier to pick up Luke Mitchell at #42. Kid has bucketloads of talent and will be great in the forward line alongside Henderson!

Could not be happier!

McCarthy - 196 cm, good pace and drive off halfback, more of a 3rd tall at this stage but if he puts on some size he could be a star. Very composed and neat disposal. Can pinch hit as a forward. Certainly a couple of years away from playing AFL football.

Watson - big boy at 195cm and over 100kg, needs to slim down a bit but will always be a massive unit. Good defender, reads the play well and has a cannon of a left leg and would be one of the best kicks in the draft. Needs to work on one on one contests. Has spent some time up forward and done it well.

Mitchell - 198cm unit, nice size and will fill out well. Good pair of hands and a good work ethic. Probably needs to work on his field kicking but he has a decent set shot. Missed most of the year with injury but kicked 5 goals in the TAC cup grand final. Impressive last year so a good pick up.

How on Earth did we manage to get both Watson and McCarthy? Amazing.

:)

Amazing is right..... And the best part about this draft is we also now get a GUN mid running through the middle by the name of GIBBS!!
:D

Herald Sun- Mock Draft

18. Carlton - Pat McCarthy (18, tall defender/forward, Glenelg SA)
Resembles: Nathan Bock (Gold Coast)

Huge bargain if he slips this far as some rate him top-10. More of a third defender than a gorilla stopper, but his damaging rebound is a key weapon. Athletic and clean skills.

--- we got him a tad later :p

Thanks mate :thumbsu:

There is a write up on cfc.com.au about each pickup now too for anyone who is interested.

Aren't you glad you got that pick from us rather than the bullshit talk before the draft you would rather let Jacobs go for nothing

We also forced you to cough up another latter pick, all for our 4th string ruck who was only ever going to be playing in the Bullants anyway. Have to admit picking up McCarthy with that pick was very lucky though. No one denies he's easily a top-20 pick player who slipped big time.

:)

We just didn't want to lose Jacobs and felt that pick 33 wasn't enough. I still think he is worth more but to pick up McCarthy with this pick is just outstanding.

McCarthy rides draft rollercoaster
"I was at home watching the names come up on the computer,” McCarthy explained. “In fact there were two computers going at the one time on the table, but my name popped up on the other computer rather than the one I was watching."

“Suddenly the people on the other side of the table went nuts and I was just sitting there. Finally my name came up on my computer, just as I started getting smacked around the head. I was just speechless."

“I’m rapt, couldn’t be happier. It’s something I’m really looking forward to,” said McCarthy, who will carry his kit bag through the doors of Visy Park for the first time next week.

“I’m moving to Carlton, one of the biggest clubs in Melbourne . . . and I know about the Glenelg connection with ‘Sticks’ (Stephen Kernahan) ‘Gibbsy’ (Bryce Gibbs) and (Mark) Austin. It’s been a good run and hopefully I can continue that run.”

They should have smacked Paddy Mac harder to name McKay and not Austin. ;) :D
