McEntee out for season (Hamstring)

With the form and dare I say it, durability, shown by Walsh since his mid-season start, does anybody else think time may be up for Luke? I remember talking to Mark Evans about him and he said he would be a great tap ruckman but would take time. I think that durability will be his issue not whether he can play footy.

Out for the season is not as bad as it sounds, considering we are so close to the end of the season.

Unfortunately for McEntee it's come at around the time the club will be making decisions as to who stays. Unlike years gone by, this year there is tight competition on the Hawks' list as to who gets the cut.

He was always going to be a project player, so would be very surprised if we got rid of him at this stage, with our questionable ruck talent. I would have thought we would focus on trading for a key defender and then having three picks in the draft, which means four players must exit out list.

Jacobs is one and it looks like Moss's injuries have set him back considerably. If, as many expect, the club does delist him, hopefully they rookie him to give him a chance. That leaves two more. Boyle would have to be one as part of acquiring the draft pick to grab the key defender or as part of the defender deal. That leaves one more.

I would have thought it would be between Tom Murphy and Timmy Clarke. Murphy is a bit too 'in-between' for me and is not good enough at any one area to make it. I really like Clarke, but spending half a year at BH does not bode well and as a small defensive forward, Rioli, Ossie and Stokes have all passed him and the match committee seem to want wingmen that can kick over a flood.

Would have thought we were a chance of getting a trade for each, either to upgrade our 3rd rounder or get a fourth round pick.

You normally make some sense when talking footy CLA but Murphy will be staying or he would be playing at Box Hill right now.

The Cougar is finally showing something at Box hill and somehow will get himself 1 more year on the list. Perhaps a fire cracker up his bum early doors might be the tonic required to get him interested.

Boyle Clarke Moss Jacobs and possibly Muston will not be on the Hawks Senior list next year.

Tim Clarke and Moss should be delisted. Clarke should aim for the London Olympics while Moss will head back to W.A and try and get rookie listed by the Weagles or Dockers.

Muston or Bailey will be rookie listed or delisted.

I hate to say this but i cant see a ruckman as big as Bailey making it back after 2 knee recos.

Muston has had 3 Knees and is 21. Very sad for the young fella.

Beau Muston signed a 2 year deal ending 2009 season last year. Will be on the senior list. Looking strong and ready to go.

I think Muston & Bailey will be on our list next year pretty sure Muston has signed a 2 year deal! :thumbsu:

The call on him through his junior years was his athleticism and recovery to make contests was unbelievable.

Would LOVE to see him make it...

I might be sounding negative but trying to be honest and that any player that plays AFL and has 3 knees is a worry.

not sure we can afford to carry blokes on our senior list next year that have major injury concerns.

Dowler, Thorp, Muston, Bailey, Mcentee have missed enormous amounts of footy for the club.

Lets say Dowler and Thorp are on 200 k a year.
Muston and Bailey 150k and Mcentee 100k thats a fair financial investment to have them all sitting out huge amounts of footy.

McEntee is the interesting one. He has shown some real glimpses. His vertical leap is nothing short of senstational. The raw material is exciting.

Given the ruck stocks at a few clubs is crap I would hang on to McEntee for one more season. Bailey is no certainty and we can leave Walshy as a rookie for one more year.

If all come on we can do some trading at the end of 09.

Now LME, I agree that Murphy has played ok, however, he does look more like a stop-gap than a long term solutiion. Do you agree?

Secondly, were you being serious when you identified that Bailey or Muston might be omitted? Doubt the club would do that for two picks around 20 that have not been tested to see what they are really like. Agree, that both will require some luck from here thought to make it.

Not sure how rookie listing works, but I don't think we can immediately delist from a senior list to a rookie list. I thought we had to go through the selection process as per normal and try our luck. Can anyone confirm?

Why not swap Walshy and McEntee around? Delist McEntee, promote Walsh to the senior list and then re-draft McEntee in the rookie draft if nothing else wets our lips for our fourth round rookie pick?

That's my understanding as well CLA - have to delist them, give them a chance for someone else to put them on their senior list, and then re-draft them as a rookie. e.g. Howat at Richmond (I think) and Ryley Dunn at the Dockers

Murphy is highly rated by coaching group despite some opinions on him he will be on our list next year.

Tough one on Muston and Bailey. Club will have to make some hard decisions but you are prob right that the fact they have invested 3 years into these guys means they would be hestitant to give up now.

People are prob reading this, thinking you heartless pr..k but i would love to see them both make it. Odds are aginst the both of them tho.

Facts are....
3 knees for a running utility is going to be an enormous effort to get back.

2 knees for a 207cm ruck at age 21 is big trouble. I guess Shaun Rehn showed that with some perserverance and luck you can make it back.

We cannot afford to have 3-4 players every year on our list not representing the club due to long term injuries.

We will eventually have to make some tough calls.

Week in week out you call for him to be dropped.

This week you want him delisted.

I wonder why Clarkson singled him out for praise at the "Inside the Huddle"function.

I wonder why Clarkson's played him in every game he's been available this season bar one (when returning from injury)

I wonder why week in week out he gives him a shut down role on the likes of Robinson, Milne, Pavlich and Medhurst.

I wonder why Clarkson threw him onto Steve Johnson when he was running rapant against us?

Nope - The guys a stop gap measure because he doesn't pickup the possessions that Birchell, Ladson and Guerra do.

Funny about that he's probably just doing a stop gap job.

If a bloke has 3 knees - therefore one is a spare - surely we should give him a go:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Dowler, Thorp, McEntee, Bailey, and Muston were recruited as injury prone players, maybe with the exception of Max.

Dowler has overcome injuries and has played alot of footy. Thorp seems to be over anything serious and looks set to be 100% for pre-season training for the first time.

McEntee has always been a favourite of mine and has plenty of talent. First year rookied he was injured. He has only played a handful of games in 07/08. I think another one-year deal in needed and we must see a consistent run of games at Box Hill to be offered a new deal for 2010. I want to keep him and keep Tim Walsh on the rookie list for another year, despite looking impressive for a 18/19 year-old kid.

Bailey and Muston have copped an unbelievable amount of luckless fortune. Muston needs to stay injury free in 2009 and play a 5-10 games in the seniors to earn another deal. Looked very good in NAB Cup before knee.

Bailey needs to get his knee 100% in the first half of 2009. Play the remainder of the saeson at Box Hill and earn a one year deal. Needs to push Taylor/Campbell/Renouf for a spot in our senior side 2010.

I want to persist with these players, as we have done as the talent is immense.

2008 OUTS: Jacobs (retired), Dawson (dud), Clarke (sorry buddy), Moss

Trade: Boyle (if the deal suits)

Ins: Picks 16, 34, 50:)

Then Cousins PSD. Haha. :)

If Benny doesn't make his way to our club the elevate Stokes instead of re-rookie. Probably likely he will be elevated.

When Luke is up and going ,he is alot better ruckmen than Whoppa Walsh,no way would i trade ,delist or swap on to the rookie list.
