I apologize if this has been discussed previously (I'm pretty sure it hasn't).
Here's a thought if we were to make the preliminary and have to play Brisbane, West Coast or Sydney (and they finished higher than us) were would you rather play them at their home ground (Gabba, Subiaco or SCG)or the MCG?
I know i'd rather play them at the MCG.And not just because it's easier for me to get to the match;) .
Anyone else agree (or indeed follow) this train of thought?

Yeah this has been mentioned once before. :) It certainly would be better to play at the MCG than Subiaco or the Gabba. Although I detest the contract so a win like that may have the feeling of a hollow victory.

From a personal point of view, I was a little happy that our qualifying final loss against Melbourne in 1998 resulted in an SCG semi. :D I'd be irate if a Sydney v Adelaide final was moved to the MCG.

Obviously it'd be preferred and in our favour.

I love it and I think the Crows love playing at the G (last week's debacle aside), especially in finals.

Sure, if we've earn the right to play a home final we should get it, and we have a better chance of winning at AAMI, but I'm not disappointed in the slightest when we're scheduled to play at the MCG in any game.

There is no question that it would be in our favour if we play Brisbane or WC at the MCG rather than GABBA and Subiaco respectively but I think it goes deeper than that. Any side that deserves to host a home preliminary should do so. They put in the hard yards during the year and deserve a home final. As DaveW said it would feel like a hollow victory.

Fair is fair.;)

100% agree.
However that is not how it works.
Had Carlton won in 1999, nobody from there would be worried about how they got to the final in the first place.

Yeah but it wouldn't make it right or fair. I know life is not fair but fair dinkum if something is wrong then its wrong.;)

If MCC don't come around this year then AFL should schedule all the crap games at the MCG next year so they don't even break even.;)

If the AFL was really determined, they could easily force the MCC to change the contract by doing just that.

If it's an all non-Victorian final, I reckon we would be adavantaged by playing any of the other non-Victorian teams, including Port, on the MCG, rather than playing them at their ground (or AAMI stadium in Port's case).

But that still might not be the case that it will be an all non-Victorian final, and for any non-Victorian team to have won the right for a home final then have to play a Victorian team on their home ground instead is nothing short of a farce.

Forget the MCG trust, they are doing nothing wrong. All they are doing is insisting on their rights as per their negotiated contract. It wasn't a sneak clause, but one that the AFL would have been fully aware of when the monies to be inputted for the current redevelopment and the return for these monies was transparently negotiated.

The AFL is the real villain in this scenario and just another example of the very poor overall job done by the AFL that Wayne Jackson has presided over.

No bouquets for Wayne and the boys here because they didn't really give a stuff at the time. and if they really did now, as the other posters have suggested, they do have the means to bring pressure to bear on the MCG Trust.

I am not getting my hopes up. I can't see the MCC giving in any time soon.

We non-Victorian clubs will continue to be hosed by the AFL and MCC. The best thing that we can do - and I know it would be hard (especially for someone like me who travels interstate regularly) - is to stay at home and watch it on TV and listen to 5AA. The only way we can truely make our point is if we hit the AFL and MCC right where it hurts - in daily match takings. If they get a very poor crowd (say 10 -12 thousand) then they would suffer financially and I personally think this is the only way to make our point. It is like a silent protest. The more we publicly go on about it - the more the VIC's get there back up and start insulting us.

I just want us to win this week really. Otherwise it may not even concern us this year :(
