MCG wicket

Doubt The Don sooked it up when he struggled on soggy tracks.
Bunch of precious petals these days.

Mental health breaks.
Sport science managed work loads.
Can't score if it's not a road.

Sure, the pitch today had too many gremlins in it, and was over juiced.
But the moaning is OTT.

For decades test cricket was on uncovered wickets with stick thin bats and far less protective equipment was used.

I haven't seen enough to make a call, but the Siddle to Marsh one was genuinely unplayable. If there were more like that, calling it off was the right thing to do. That wasn't a little up and down, that was reminiscent of the abandoned test in the West Indies a few years back.

Nah, the ground staff simply ****ed up. on this occasion. The pitch is too soft and the ball is leaving impressions in the surface as it bounces. Over time this builds up a dimpled pattern in the surface and the bounce becomes unpredictable, unplayable even with good technique, not to mention dangerous. The umpires thought it was getting worse as each over was bowled, Only thing to do is stop the game, roll the pitch flat again to smooth out the dimples and give it time to dry and harden.

The two balls they highlighted in the Seven coverage (one to Marsh and one to Stoinis) were actually dangerous, so I think they made the right call in suspending play. I'm so in favour of bowler friendly wickets in general, but this was pretty extreme.

Also, my phone autocorrects Stoinis as Adonis. I bet Warne rubs one out every time he notices that happen on his phone.

It was common practice in Bradman's day to send the bowlers out at the top of the order in the hope the pitch would dry up before the batters came in.

Case in point is Bradman's 270 batting at number 7. Bill O'Reilly opened the batting with Chuck Fleetwood Smith - combined batting averages of 21, for the record.

So he probably didn't whinge, but he avoided it as much as possible.

Would love to see the test moved to a more suitable venue. I can’t remember the last time the MCG provided a proper cricket pitch. I’m from WA but would rather see the game played in SA

There’s a line between difficult and dangerous, and this wicket crossed it.

Deeply embarrassing for the new curator who has clearly over-compensated after the “boring” criticisms. If they send people home at lunchtime on Boxing Day, there will be big trouble!
