Was listening to the radio over here (in SA) so didn't see it till today... Man, that's couragous. That is exactly what our boys are known for. Just unbelievable commitment and dedication to the contest. Apart from the final outcome I absolutely loved it Benny. That kind of thing takes guts most people wouldn't have and you've certainly earned a truck-load of respect from this Swans supporter that's for damn sure mate. Hope the surgery goes all good and you're back up and firing for finals mate.

just read that the surgery went well, expected to be running in 10 days, he is tough...:thumbsu:

thats great news. Still would be a huge effort and call to be playing week one of finals. I wonder out of interest, how much an injury like that makes you hesitate when you get back out there again?

From personal experience very little... Its on your concious ofcourse but if you have the balls to do it in the first place it doesnt worry you... I broke my nose doing very similiar and also a bruised cheekbone from it. You just do it again because you know and think back its the right thing to do!

Top work mate, proud to call you a Swannie!

James Hird had a similar injury over here a few years ago. (Mark McVeigh's knee). He came back to play well. Sounds like Ben will have the same surgeon if he's gone to SCGH. His vision is the main concern. You don't want nerves or small eye muscles trapped by fractures.
He is so much a part of our structure. Even though Sandilands was the Freo omission everyone talked about, Ballantyne was as serious an omission, and that "terrier" role is Ben's in our team. He's just a guy that lives to play footy so here's hoping it all goes smoothly.

Hird's injury was far worse than Bennys. He had compound facial fractures and it was horrible to see.He missed alot of games and I have a feeling he wore a helmet when he came back.
You remember guys like him and in our club McGlynn,Moore ( backed back into a pack last year and fractured ribs and punctured a lung as did Teddy.Pure guts.

I agree Hird's was worse. It was still similar in location and likely long term issues. The point I was trying to make though is that Hird came back and played good football again. Of course, that is a given with Benny's toughness, courage and will. And because he's a Blood.
