Saints, Gardiner to meet on ruck role

The Saints yesterday re-signed small forward Stephen Milne and offered contracts to all players, including veteran Andrew Thompson, except Allan Murray and Mark McGough, who will be delisted.

This is no surprise. The real mystery is what happens if we get Gardiner. We have to draft three players in the National Draft, and if we were to trade a draft pick for Gardiner, then that would leave us with only two spots open on the list. The solutions to this would be:

1. Trade a contracted (not re-signed this off-season) player for Gardiner
2. Delist another listed player

Who would we trade for Gardiner if we had to give up a player? We have no Western Australians on our list to the best of my memory.

From my reckoning thats 37 players (assuming that the two older rookies have been delisted).

No surprises there with the delistings. Good to see Brooks given another year (I reckon he was 50-50 until that Brisbane game).

We all expected Thommo to play another year after Peckett and Powell retired - he may be 34 next season but he hasn't had the wear and tear of players that age (starting at 24). Gardiner's only played 129 games in 10 years
