McGregor return delayed

Ken McGregor will be kept off the training track for four weeks in an attempt to solve his Achilles tendon problem.
Crows physical performance manager Stephen Schwerdt said McGregor would be restricted to non-impact training for the next month.
“Ken has some tendonitis in the Achilles,” Schwerdt said. “We tried a couple of weeks of rest followed by some training but there was still some soreness so we will back off for about a month and he can swim and ride the bike.”
Adelaide remains unsure when captain Mark Ricciuto will be ready to return to full training.
Ricciuto, troubled by a back injury from early February, resumed running early this month but will not advance to football drills until he is pain free.
“We will continue to take a cautious approach with Mark,” Schwerdt said. “There is no deadline for him to return but before he plays he will need to complete at least a week, probably two weeks, of full-on competitive training.
“Obviously the first game is now less than three weeks away but we are not going to force him to get out on to the track for that if he is not ready.”
Forward Ian Perrie, who has not played since jagging a hamstring in the trial game against Norwood on February 16, will return to full training on Tuesday evening and hopes to be ready to play this weekend.
Jason Porplyzia is also ready to play after missing the past two games to rest a so

Major Concern? Throws our Round one line up out a bit!

Wicked. A review of Adelaide's injury management and medical staff needs to take place.

Quite a few of the boys seem to be developing tendonitis, Kenny, Roo last year, Nick Gill in the 'Tiser today, starting to be a concern

Indeed. It is a huge concern, I'm not sure if it's from training too hard. I'm certain Gill got his injury from training too hard trying to elevate his fitness to the level of an AFL player. This is not cool.

Ever since this 'taper/tour de france/flog them stupid' policy shot to prominence our players have been dropping like flies.

What's the go?

Not having seen him play but it sounds like Tippett can offer a decent contest in the ruck. Perhaps more so than McGregor?

But big shoes for a first year player only having a total of about 20 matches under the belt to step up round one.

Then again he sounds like his head is screwed on and he might rise to the occasion and relish in it?

One mans loss is anothers gain!

I think this question will be beaten along jungle paths in the next few weeks if it gets worse.

Not happy yet not overly concerned until we see the Round 1-2 make up

It's absurd that people are panicking about this. We have a good enough side to win most of our matches without these players in the early going. What matters is getting everyone fit and firing for the finals. I seriously cannot believe that people haven't learnt from last year.

what the **** is going on?

NC's first year we all commented on our lack of injuries and we attributed this to Craig's sport science background.

Was this just a fluke? and have we totally over rated this aspect of his coaching? Personally I think there needs to be an overhaul, this is getting beyond a joke.

lets worry about getting to the finals first, the way things are going we will not have 22 fit players at the end of the year.

Why shouldn't people worry about the amount of injuries? Just because it's the start of the year doesn't mean ****, there must be something going wrong or just a terrible case of bad luck, it's as if Craig threw a black cat at a mirror while walking under a ladder. How do you know these injuries won't continue throughout the year? We could just keep having players go down all year, therefore come finals our key players aren't match fit and the team hasn't gelled into a unit tougher than Gets!

Gee after reading that I feel like there is NO FUTURE

We will still be a force to be reckoned with this year lads and ladettes, no dramas there, but when you have a string of injuries (especially when they are similar) you have to have a look and see if anything is going wrong before it really goes pear shaped. At least it is happening now, almost the best time to happen even though it has cocked up the preseason for a few of the boys.

I think I might head OS for 12 months - come back when we need our sunnys again:D
We're two weeks away from season start ....yes we're depleted but unless other injuries occur we should be right after the first month.

If you look at everyones first round side ....even with Roo, McGregor, Maric, Meesen, Gill and co on the sidelines it still looks a formidable side :thumbsu:

I was just kidding - I see my humour button isn't working anymore:(

I still think we are alright - afterall we still have Jericho to come back into our best 22 (that was actually said !!!)

no but seriously I think we should fair well, Burton to FF is going to help alot.its just a shame about Gill

All these injuries are starting to bug me.

The tall fellas are dropping like flies; firstly two freak accidents with Hentschel and Biglands, then Perrie's hamstring, Tippett's neck, Maric, Meesen, Gill, now McGregor.

I can remember reading a training report over the summer where Kenny was moving freely and looking fantastic - what happened?

Along with the problems with Roo, Campbell and Hinge, it doesn't exactly scream 'World Class Physical Preparation'.

2005 was a blessed run for us, until Hudson went down with a knee reconstruction, that was the only downer. 2006 wasn't shockingly bad until late in the year when we were just swamped with injuries; that happens. So that's about 1/3 of a year where we had some worries. Now who have we got missing from our best 22? Well there's Hentschel and Biglands, those were accidents that couldn't be helped, can't blame that on Craigy. Of our contenders for the best 22 we're missing Perrie, McGregor probably Maric; I would consider this latest Ricciuto injury to be largely due to age (just look at Buckley with his problems), his body is telling him time is just about up. Gill is one you'd throw into the 1st line for forward replacements, an emergency.

But seriously, the vast majority of our injuries are just bad damn luck! Hinge dislocated his thumb, bad luck. Campbell rolled his ankle; sports science ain't gonna magically prevent that. Tippett with his vertebrate injury, again just a freak thing. Meesen loses his balance and steps awkwardly - again just one of those freak things. There's the obvious Hentschel and Biglands incidents. Roo's parvo last year, how bloody unlucky is that!

People see injuries galore and think OMG SPORTS SCIENCE PHAILS!!! Truth be told we've just had a lot of bad luck. Think the Western Bulldogs. Anyway, aside from Hentschel and Biglands we should have everyone back in time for the more important rounds of the season, at this early stage I'd just sit back and watch the younger guys give us something.

Sounds like a plan. Just back the young fellas in and watch how good they are!

Actually, we had a horrendous injury run all year.

From the very start, Roo was never right - missed the entire pre-season and struggled manfully from then on until succumbing to parvovirus.

Bock, Torney & Welsh all missed the first half of the season. Perrie started well before injuring his knee in a marking contest and missed the middle of the season, as did Van Berlo with his broken collarbone. Even McGregor carried an injury all year, but played through it due to the fact that the team needed him so desperately with all our other tall forwards AWOL.

Yes, at the end of the year we lost Roo, Hart, Hentschel & Macca all in one hit. Those injuries were at the end of a bad year, not the start of a bad patch.

The reason those injuries really hurt us is that so many of our other players, who had finally recovered from their injuries which had kept them out earlier in the season, were so badly underdone (Welsh & Perrie in particular).

It seems to me serious questions need to be asked by those is charge! At the moment their answers to alot of our injuries are for them to be rested, and for long periods. I want to know how it got to that stage in the first place and is the cure to rest more a case of not knowing how to fix the problem and if so should they be getting advice elsewhere?

Last year the treatment of McLeod's foot was handled terribly and the fitness/medical staff performance is not improving from my point of view.
