A whole 9 pages and not one mention of Brett Peake as an inclusion for this week's team.

McPhee has been doing his thing fine this year.

Rosco on 6PR tonight was again asked about Silvani. You could definitely tell in his response that he is a little sick of responding to that same question a couple of times every week. The way he is talked up on here you would think that last season he was vying with Glass/Scarlett for All Australian Full back.

When I sat down before the game - the couple that sit behind me were having an avid discussion about when Silvagni is going to come back. I may have had a word in.

Mind you there's a lady that sits 2 seats behind me that keeps yelling 'kick it' and it isn't the quadriplegic woman behind surfsup. You hear a loud voice yelling and assume it's someone young, but no - this is a grandma. The best part is - she always yells 'kick it' when the players are behind the ball and there is nobody forward to kick it to. Then she gets upset when they centre the ball. I could punch her in the face.

Ross also said in that interview that McPhee was unlikely to play this week because of injury. 6 day break - its a calf injury not an ankle - so not on the serious side.

Personally I think he's had a 2-3 games this year (vs Brisbane, St Kilda, Carlton) where he's been very good, maybe one of those games where I've thought he was just about our best player, but the last 2 weeks I haven't been impressed. He's a fighter, but I'm also of the opinion that each week he's fighting for survival for a place in the team.

Not sure if the match committee rates him higher than I do.

To put it another way. I don't think he has a lot in the bank. He needs a lot of good performances to accrue some revenue, and with every bad performance there's a danger that his account is going to be closed, since he has a limited portfolio and can't really be considered a long term investment.

To be fair, the supporters just know what usually comes next whenever we kick backwards for the switch or to maintain possession and ice the clock. Usually somebody ****s up and the opposition gobbles up the turnover for an easy goal.

Seen it time and time again and will therefore happily boo the backwards kick. If I were coach, kicking backwards would be punishable by death.

Sorry Reg, I usually rate your opinion (for better or worse), but in this case, you have relegated yourself to the "KICK THE BLOODY THING" league.

I can't believe you're talking such trype.

Perhaps she really, really misses Dale?

Quit the trolling.

I posted something similar to tacopavlich. My post was moderated for some reason (these mods would be at home on the gold coast board). Anyways, I suggest you get yourself down to a WAFL game, then you will get to see very clearly that ("one of the most promising KPP players in the competition") is just an okay player at WAFL level. I'd actually say that he's not even the most promising KPP in the WAFL.....

You're welcome to your opinion MUFFman, however I think it sends all the wrong messages in a game that's won in attack. Play the possession game, make the switch, whatever, but in Uncle Reggies patch we would kick sideways and forwards, and never kick backwards. You can't tell me its not possible.

Out: McPhee

The thing is though, it’s better to kick backwards than turn the ball over. In fact, in many cases it’s better to kick backwards than kick to a contest. This is more important than ever due to the further advancement of the press. If you turn the ball over on the second kick out of defence when the team is in the middle of an offensive push you can find yourself immediately out of position, and without appropriate time to from structure in defence. The reality is that the “just kick it brigade” don’t really understand the tactical side of football. Kicking backwards may not conform to some peoples idea of exciting football, but it’s sure as hell better than losing due to turnovers by being overly offensive.

In: Tony Modra (Coaches to do a rapid Tarrant style transform on Modra to salvage his career by a move to defence)

Its when both happens that the practice loses its appeal.

I agree with maintaining uncontested possession as much as possible, but there must be a way to do it without going backwards.

This! :thumbsd:

For some reasons coaches seem to rather take the chance of turning the ball over in a defensive 50 metre arc, than kicking it long down the ground and allowing a man on man contest occur in our offensive 50 metre arc! If the ball is potentially going to be turned over, I'd rather it occur closer to our goals than the oppositions!

You have to look deeper. It's not just about where the turnover occurs, it's about where the team structure is at. It's no good having a turnover at half forward when the team is pushing forward because couple of quick kicks and you have the opposition in attack with defence out of position. It's a team defence, and it holds up on the basis of structure, position and discipline.

I swear you're either in the same block as me or there's a crazy shrill "KICK IIITT" woman in every block, and of course 9/10 when the player does actually bomb it long it's turned over or rebounded easily from our 50. ****ssake.

Pretty much, if we scrapped every strategy or tactic that occaisionally results in turnovers through it's application we'd be back to the old days of just bombing it long and hoping for the best. Today's game is all about maintaining possession.

The best part is - if they do bomb it long with no real options, and it results in a turnover - you end up hearing 'XXX you spud!'

*facepalm*

What about the numpties that Boo when we go backwards. Seriously folks that's your team. Massively ignorant/dumb supporters there. I always think to myself, yeah these people have no grasp of this game.
