Mechanical "Doping"

At 3.40, it seems a little impossible to do what he did. He accelerated, got on the wheel, peddled as fast as everyone else. Got off the wheel, kept the same peddle rate and blew them away within a few metres. The fellas at the front weren't exactly going at full pace but that is a big gap he put on them in a very small space of time without actually looking like he was pushing it.

The Flanders section seemed pretty damming too. He flicks something on his handle bars right at the point where Boonen seemed to be struggling (could be his gears). He didn't look overly comfortable behind Boonen, then all of a sudden he puts on a burst just sitting on the saddle. He is a powerful bloke but it seems a little unnatural.

Saying that, I didn't see either race, pretty easy to pick sections out, maybe he was feeling good? Not sure, did seem suss though.

Cancellara denies bike motor story

http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/4387/Cancellara-denies-bike-motor-story-others-debate-the-issue.aspx

World time trial champion Fabian Cancellara has rejected suggestions that he may have used an internal bike motor in winning the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

“It is so crazy that I don’t have words for it,” he told Het Nieuwsblad. “I don’t want to speak too much about this and dwell on a story that’s so stupid. I have never had batteries on my bike. [Besides,] that must produce noise?”

He really is a beast but I Just can't see those accelerations being natural. Cocaine Boonen doesn't get blown away in the classics like that. Also in Roubaix cancellara doesn't even get out of the saddle but still cruizes past.

Dissapointing if true.

The last part of the quote suggests he is guilty imo. Whenever people ask a question when answering one makes me suscpious.
True he did qualify it which is a sign of lying but its a very valid point. In that demonstration that was shown the bikes with the engines in them sounded very loud. To me his acceleration doesn't look all that unnatural. The other riders all slowed down and he was out of his saddle for quite a while before it looked as though he went bang. On top of that Cancellara is a freak and he often rides in his seat in a massive gear.

I think hes fine but then again I love the Fab.

If true then highly bizarre. I have never liked the man ever since he told Cadel to piss off in the break away during the Tour (last year?).

Why?

He had every right to.

Evans had no place in that break. It wouldn't have survived and the people in it wanted to go for a stage win and with Evans up there, was never going to get that opportunity.

If he didn't tell him to piss off, everyone else would have refused to work and it would have been caught either way.

Looking at the leg speed of Fabs compared to Boonen definently shows why the bloke pulls away. Although it could just be a mechanical device, he has shown he can crunch big gears sitting in the saddle for a long time now, surely he hasn't been doing this for the last 5 years.

He is a beast.

Wrong Evans initiated that break and everyone jumped on. Evans quite rightly told Fabs to stick it.

Doesnt' matter. These people wanted to fight for a stage win.

Either way if no one joined Evans, he would have been caught 50km into the stage and wouldn't have attacked again.

It was an idiot time for Evans to attack. He didn't use his brain.

While I agree that it was futile for Evans to attack what would you do if you were him. Your teams ****ing you over as some blokes shown a slight amount of talent and happens to be native to Belgium yet you know your good enough for atleast a podium.

With all due respect to him, he was out of contention for the win and the podium. Here is the classement at the start of that stage.

2 Alberto Contador Velasco (Spa) Astana 0:00:06
3 Lance Armstrong (USA) Astana 0:00:08
4 Levi Leipheimer (USA) Astana 0:00:39
5 Bradley Wiggins (GBr) Garmin - Slipstream 0:00:46
6 Andreas Klöden (Ger) Astana 0:00:54
7 Tony Martin (Ger) Team Columbia - HTC 0:01:00
8 Christian Vande Velde (USA) Garmin - Slipstream 0:01:24
9 Andy Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank 0:01:49
10 Vincenzo Nibali (Ita) Liquigas 0:01:54

11 Jérôme Pineau (Fra) Quick Step 0:02:10
12 Maxime Monfort (Bel) Team Columbia - HTC 0:02:21
13 Fränk Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank 0:02:25
14 Roman Kreuziger (Cze) Liquigas 0:02:40
15 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Cervelo Test Team 0:02:52
16 Johannes Fröhlinger (Ger) Team Milram 0:02:54
17 Franco Pellizotti (Ita) Liquigas 0:03:03
18 Cadel Evans (Aus) Silence - Lotto 0:03:07

Riding for Van den Broeck was the best move for the future to give him that exposure.

If it was late in the Tour, like stage 13+, people wouldn't mind Evans being there but the fact is it was a ridiculous stage for Evans to attack on.

Stage 8, he's down 3 minutes on the race leader, he was never going to stay away. He would have been pulled back. If he was down 10 minutes, then it would have been another story.

He should have waited for the high mountains for the attack.

He was out of conteniton yet he was never going to stay away? bit of a contradiction.

And riding for a teammate who is lower on GC and unproven? Go back to riding school and learn tactics please....

They started riding for Van den Broeck when Cadel was over 10 minutes down.

Why would you ride for a guy who is over 10 minutes down and no chance of winning?

That is wrong. I remember on the stage Contador won JVB attacked and tried to win it for himself while cadel was still in the group. This was early on and Cadel was not down 10 minutes. If they were riding for Cadel JVB would never of attacked.

Also I'm sure JVB was on something last year he was in a breakway like every mountain stage and killed it.
