Sanctimonious morons!
How dare they accuse Ross Lyon of dishonesty.
He was headhunted, he didn't court the offer.
He's done the right thing by exercising his legal right in the contract that he had.
How dare the media today accuse him of anything ?
Do they pay to sit at Subi every second w/end, do they pay for overpriced midstrength, and overpriced everything else every second w/end over the winter months. They pay for nothing, and they pretend to berate the current Freo admin on behalf of the purple army.
Bullshit !
They are a bunch of pretentious morons, and I go back to Frank Sinatra and suggest all they are, and all they ever will be are pimps and hookers!
Ozzie media are pretenders, and Perth media are whores and windbags.
Well played Ross Lyon!

I thought Mike Sheahans take was fair.

It was a big call by the Dockers, who face a payout of more than $600,000 for the final year of Harvey's contract, plus the expense involved in relocating the family to Melbourne.
Yet, it is hard to avoid the feeling Fremantle has made the boldest decision in the club's history, one that will finally bring them success.

Honest anwer, probably because...

Herald Sun, 17 May 2011 -
"Lyon allayed any fears about his immediate future at St Kilda by
declaring he would honour his contract, which expires at the end of next
season. "Quite simply I am contracted until the end of 2012 and I'm fully
committed to fulfilling that contract." "

Ross Lyon, reported in Sydney Morning Herald, 17 May 2011.
ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon has urged fans to keep faith with the Saints
as they struggle through an AFL season from hell. Responding to
speculation about his own future as St Kilda coach, Lyon repeated his
comments that he is contracted to the club until the end of next year
and it will be the Saints, not himself, who decide how long he stays in
the role.

Jason Blake September 4
Blake said the push to September was bolstered by the Saints coach saying he was committed to the cause. “He addressed it straight after and told us it was not true – we front up all those things in the media so there is no grey area,” told Triple M radio in Melbourne. “He was forthright in the commitment to the club.”

Sam Fisher,, quoted in Herald Sun, Sept 6
“Fisher said Lyon address the playing group recently. "He has been
honest and up front with us. That is the way Ross has been all the way
through and you take him on his word."

Ross Lyon, The Australian, September 13
“My position hasn't changed. I don't deal in rumour and innuendo and
certainly I'm as committed as I've ever been to my role. My status
hasn't changed one iota."

Jon Ralph in the Herald Sun, Wedesday, Sept 14.
“You will not hear one bad word about Lyon from his senior players
because he trusts them, and they trust him. That word - trust - is vital
because he has told his players he is in for the long haul”.

Here, here!

It took the saints 6 mths to table an extension,

It took Freo 72 hrs to table, and trump the saints offer.

The media are filthy because there were no leaks, and we have been in talks with Lyon for 3 weeks.

Fremantle Football Club have just announced themselves to the comp, and we didn't call a press conference, they are offended. :thumbsu:

The media are just trying to generate a story. Use emotive language like 'backstabbing', 'dishonesty', 'conspiracy' and 'treachery' and people will read it. Those that are as dumb as dog shit will buy it.

Lyon got a better offer, he took it. Fremantle wanted a better coach, they got one. No story in just saying that though.

**** em.

The media are offended indeed. They pulled out all the stops today asking the same question 37 times...
Eat it up you phone hacking journo mongers.:D

True that.

Now I've got my head around his leaving and the manner in which he did, that's the view I'm taking.

Very good coach though.

It's ironic, out of all the clubs someone could defect to Freo' from it has tobe our nearest thing to a genuine rival. Sure, there's WC, but that's most geographical derby thing, but the history between Freo' and St. Kilda just seems to keep being added on to.

Agree, and it continues on the half time show of the Hawks V Swans game. There are two sides to every story but the only person channel 7 got on the panel was Craig Kelly from ESP to bag Freo for recruiting Lyon the wrong way and not honouring their contract with Harvey. Leigh Matthews also said we have done the wrong thing. The shitstorm this has created is ridiculous. Oh and a brief interview with Harvey stating that Freo fans are outraged and wanting him to be reinstated.

He's been here 5 minutes and you're already sticking up for him.

I'm sticking up for him coz he looked the accusers in the eye, and said bullshit!

This just about sums it up for me.

Change is supposed to be as good as a holiday.

Maybe not if the vacation is actually a one-way trip to the AFL scrapheap.

The throw-out pile belonging to Fremantle is currently the biggest in the league.

In the space of 12 months, the club's famous - or possibly infamous - anchor logo, something of great pride to true port footy supporters, has been pulled and turned into what looks like an out-of-shape paper clip.

The original jumper, coloured in maritime starboard and port, has been sunk.

The unique theme song is also about to be swamped.

And now the coach, who just 12 months earlier had guided a rebuilt team into the finals, has been sent "down below".

It is an extraordinary transformation for any club. It is even more remarkable for one that has been operating just 17 seasons.

All of these decisions were made by a board, which is mostly unanswerable to Dockers members. Most of the moves were made under a president, Steve Harris, who has been in the post two seasons.

Only a quarter of the board is elected by those that buy season tickets, merchandise, corporate suites and sponsorships. The other 75 per cent is elected by no-one. They are appointed with the sanction of the WA Football Commission. Football supporters are also unable to vote on the WAFC but that leads to another story for another day.

So, in essence, the majority of the Fremantle board is not answerable to those that are the club's lifeblood.

Sure, Dockers management can point to surveys, focus groups and polls and say they were guided by the opinion of particular fans when changing guernsey, tune and brand image.

Then why are so many Fremantle fans so angry about the revamp of the club? Social media overheated with frustrated Dockers diehards lamenting the continual change in the wake on Thursday's sacking of Mark Harvey.

That attitude will further fester when Fremantle officials front media to explain why a popular coach was so unceremoniously dumped. At this stage we doubt there will be an address by the board to the fans at Fremantle Oval.

The board, no doubt, want the Dockers to thrive and flourish and make calls based on that premise.

But within a year the AFL team known as Fremantle is barely recognisable.

There are plenty of fans who feel the Dockers have thrown out too much.

The club's brains trust must now spend the next six months working diligently to convince those same supporters not to toss out their membership renewal forms.

That article makes some valid points about the jumper and logo(and structure), but if anyone thinks we are any less Fremantle just because we went out and recruited a better coach then i'm surprised those people have the intelligence to get out of bed in the morning.

If the last 24 hours have taught me one thing it's that we have some deadset space cadets as supporters. It's like these guys actually want us to fail.

Leigh Matthews has expanded on his view here.

Sorry mate, turncoat ********s don't get much kudos around here.

Piss off back to your own board

I was a Fremantle foundation member and I don't like the 2 WCE blow in's coming in like John Wyane blowing every thing that is Fremantle out the door to duplicate the club that they came from.

I think this talk of mass revolt by supporters is over-estimated. Most of the fans here seem to have accepted it.

You little shit head, I was a Fremantle foundation member and I don't like the 2 WCE blow in's coming in like John Wyane blowing every thing that is Fremantle out the door to duplicate the club that they came from.

It's Wayne, and its our board so f off !!
