Re: Medium-Tall Denfender

I remember Otto did very well in the vertical jump at the draft camp as well - something pretty useful for a third med/tall defender. However, I think as he develops he will move back into his natural position in the midfield and across HF. As someone has mentioned we need to use that outstanding engine and ball-winning ability where it counts.

I'm pretty confident Kite will become good enough for that BP role by 2010. Not sure about Gallman...

Re: Medium-Tall Denfender

I have him down as 2.99 in the 20m, and 6th overall for the agility run.
He's got dash for a bloke his size.

Yeah exactly, takes a while to get started in a straight line, but at full tilt he can break lines and his agility + height holds him in good stead. Stands up in a tackle very well also. If he's going to be played as a 3rd KPB he's ready made. The next question is, how long until he plays in the midfield?

Re: Medium-Tall Denfender

If Otten developes an elite tank (Burton like) he will cause massive head aches. Has the ability to just follow the ball, forward back side to side and not be out of place.

Had 94% TOG on the weekend. Even though he was mostly playing in a defensive role he covered a lot of ground, so I don't think his tank is an issue. On top of that, he doesn't strike me as the type of player that would need a huge tank either. He has the height and marking style to take the ball overhead, reads the play well, has excellent poise and agility so will always have a couple moments over his opponent. His biggest weakness is probably disposal by foot on the run or in-play, but as he spends more time in the AFL I think he will make space more and more, overcoming that weakness. Mind you a tank won't hurt either and we all know NC is the man to get it out of him.

Ran a 14.2 beep test back at the draft camp, equal 11th place (the top ten were released and 10th placed got 14.3 so it's safe so say he was right up there with the elite in the draft camp) and then completed two Crows preseasons. I have no doubt his fitness is already elite.

Edit: Apparently he was also 6th in the agility test. Awesome :thumbsu:

I wasn't in any way saying he has a sub par tank, just that if he developes a very top tier and he was able to push both ends of the ground and just ply a follow the ball role, he's be a nightmare to match up on because of that hight speed/agility combo.

Yeah definitely wasn't implying that either. Just saying he has enough tools to make it without his tank being a major concern, although it certainly won't hurt.

That was awesome Chunky! Especially against a gaelic bloke. love ur profile pic btw.

Yeah as cnmdstab said, his engine is already bordering elite status - seeing him playing in the midfield for Sth last year he just ran all day.

Also wouldn't discount Dangerfield as a mobile tall defender as well, would probably rather him in the midfield, but is another with the skills to do it if required.

I don't think its so much of an issue, except for maybe against the Bulldogs who have their entire forward line made up of them, but even then, we normally go alright against them anyway.
